THERE’S nothing like mulled wine under twinkling lights to get you into the festive spirit.

So we’ve picked out six European cities known for their incredible Christmas markets where you can do just that.

And to help get you there, we’ve found some bargain deals as well, with flights and hotels near the markets included.

Read on to find out where to go this winter.

Berlin – from November 21

Berlin is one of the best cities for Christmas markets and there are a lot to choose from.

WeihnachtsZauber at Gendarmenmarkt, Christmas market at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, and Berliner Weihnachtszeit at the Rotes Rathaus are some of the bigger and most popular options though.

Almost all of the markets will have traditional chalet-style huts with gluhwein (the German version of mulled wine) and food stalls selling things like raclette.

You’ll also be able to pick up traditional crafts and Christmas decorations.

However, because there are so many different markets around the city, it doesn’t matter too much where you stay.

Basel – from November 23

Located on the border of France and Germany, the Swiss city of Basel is normally known for its summer activities, like swimming along the Rhine river.

But in winter, this cosmopolitan city hosts two of the biggest and prettiest Christmas markets in Switzerland – at Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz.

Luckily they’re really close to each other so it’s easy to enjoy both in one day.

You can get to Basel a few ways but the nearest airport is actually over the border in France.

British Airways has one of the cheaper deals there, with prices from £224pp.

You’ll stay for two nights on a room-only basis at the 4* Radisson Blu Hotel – Basel, with flights from London Heathrow on November 26.

EasyJet also flies there and you can find their deals here.

Budget-friendly Prague is another city that hosts a few Christmas markets.

Two of the biggest ones can be found at Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square.

These are both centrally located and they’re close enough to walk.

Expect plenty of traditional handicrafts for gifts, and hearty and delicious food and drink while you shop.

There are lots of budget-friendly deals to the Czech capital so you can really take your pick.

One we spotted was for 2 nights at the 3* Tivoli in the heart of the city on a room-only basis.

With flights from London Stansted on November 26, you’ll pay £124pp for the mini break with Thomas Cook.

Vienna – from November 10

The Austrian capital of Vienna is already pretty fairytale-like but at Christmas it really comes into its own.

There are lots of Christmas markets all over the city to choose from and most have stunning buildings as their backdrop.

And unlike Christmas markets elsewhere, these start as early as mid November.

Some of the most impressive include the Viennese Dream Christmas Market in front of city hall, Christmas Market at Schönbrunn Palace, and Christmas Village Belvedere Palace.

Thanks to the fact that it’s such a popular city break destination, there are lots of deals to be found.

BA Holidays has a 2-night break staying at the 4* Daniel Vienna from £186.50pp.

It’s on a room-only basis, and includes flights from London Heathrow on November 26.

You can also find Vienne city break deals at:

  • Thomas Cook
  • Jet2 Holidays
  • Tui
  • EasyJet

Paris – from November 19

Paris has a lot going for it all year round so it might not be the most obvious Christmas market destination but there are dozens that pop up in the city throughout the festive season.

For most people, the best one is La Magie de Noël in Tuileries Garden where you have around 100 stalls all set up and raring to go.

There’s also the La Défense Christmas Market, which is one of the biggest in the city with over 300 stalls.

Again, Paris’s popularity means there are plenty of deals – and you can couple it with a visit to Disneyland Paris.

easyJet has a 2-night break staying at the 4* Les Bulles de Paris on a room-only basis for £196pp.

Flights from London Luton on November 26 are included as well.

  • Thomas Cook

Brussels – from November 25

The Brussels Christmas market is a sprawling one that spreads across a few streets, but start from Marché aux Poissons and you can’t go wrong.

Usually there are a couple of hundred stalls selling everything from arts and crafts to food and drink.

On the bigger squares, there’s also ice skating and curling.

One of the cheapest and closest hotels nearby is the 3* Ibis Sainte Catherine Hotel – Travel Republic has a 2-night stay there from £186pp.

The package deal includes return flights from London Heathrow on November 26 as well as accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis.

Here are some of the other places where you can find Brussels travel deals:

  • Thomas Cook

You can get up to 45% off on some of the most popular London attractions at the moment.
