I make the perfect gammon joint in my Air Fryer – it's so easy and perfect for Christmas too | The Sun


WITH Christmas just a few days away, most of us will be doing the last supermarket sweep ahead of a big few days. 

But if you’re struggling for ideas on what to cook for your family, one savvy chef has shared a quick and easy gammon joint recipe – and you can do it in your air fryer. 

The Swally Walton Family, known online as @swally71, regularly share cooking tips and recipe ideas with their 35,000 TikTok followers. 

In a recent video, their dad shared his one-hour easy gammon recipe.

The secret – honey and sweet chilli sauce. 

“People have been asking for this in the air fryer. It’s the one, the only gammon joint.

“I’ve just bought it from butchers, it’s new. It’s not hard, this one, but I’m going to show you what I’m going to do. 

“So I'm going to get into it. Basically, it’s this simple. 

“I’m going to stick my knife in this bag here, like that. I’m going to undo that. 

“I’m going to pull my drawer out, I’m going to get my gammon, and I’m going to put it like that.

“So it’s in the tray. It’s a bit bigger than I thought. So, let’s go.”

During the four-minute video, he starts by putting the gammon joint in the air fryer, with the skin facing upwards. 

Then he sets it his air fryer at 180°C for 40 minutes. 

Halfway through, he flips the joint and cuts slits down the length, which he then fills with runny honey. 

He continues: “Hallway through is where the magic’s going to happen. 

“What I’m going to do now is I’m going to slash it like this. 

“This is just how I do mine, so we don’t all have to do it, and I’m going to slash it. 

“Then I get this. This is honey, runny honey and then I go like this into them. Get your honey right in the cracks.

“And so we just drench it in honey. You might think it’s a lot, but there you go. 

“Then it’s back into the air fryer.” 

He actually added another 10 minutes onto the cooking time, and five minutes before the end coats the joint in sweet chilli sauce. 

They also explained that they used a food probe to check the inside temperature of the meat was at least 155°C. 

“Oh my lord, cast your eyes on that bad boy. 

“Now I did go in with five minutes to go and put a bit of sweet chilli sauce on. 

“Look at the caramelisation on the top of that. 

“That is going to be utter heaven.”

Fans loved the quick and easy recipe, with the video gaining more than 4,200 likes and 351,000 views. 

In the comments, the family’s followers raved about the recipe, with one writing: “Look amazing and shall be trying.”
