Looking for a wild time in a city filled with culture and crazy parties?

Then Miami is calling your name.

Art, car races and hip hotels are all fine reasons to visit Florida’s beachside city, and we’ve got the lowdown on everything to do.

Read on below for your guide to the ultimate stay in Miami.

Art and culture

For those who like their art with wow factor, recently opened purpose-built exhibition space Superblue (tickets cost £26) spans 50,000sq ft and has 26ft high ceilings.

‘We support and represent artists who don’t work in traditional formats but in large-scale, experiential spaces,’ says director Shantelle Rodriguez.

This includes teamLab, a global collective of artists and scientists whose interactive works blend themes of nature and tech; James Turrell, who lights white rooms with intense colours, playing with depth perception; and Es Devlin, a stage producer who’s staged events for Beyoncé and Chanel, and whose two-storey mirrored installation is perfect Insta fodder.

Don’t miss teamLab’s fun room full of soap bubbles.

And opening in spring is underwater public art project The Reefline.

This seven-mile sculpture park, snorkel trail and artificial reef off Miami’s shoreline will feature environmentally functioning artworks by international artists and designers.

Hot hotels

South Beach has come into the spotlight again with a profusion of chic new hotels. Washington Avenue is home to three with very different styles: Hotel Esme (rooms from £187pn) has a hacienda feel, and is comprised of eight historic buildings.

There’s a rooftop pool and you can choose between the El Salon cocktail bar, the Tropezon gin bar and Bar Pintxo, which serves Basque food and wine.

The Goodtime (rooms from £205pn) is part-owned by rap star Pharrell Williams and is a riot of tropical print wallpaper, hip hop tunes in the lobby and a ’grammable co-working space with lamps shaped like giraffes. The concept?

‘We just want you to have, well, a good time!’ says marketing director Zach Felter. ‘Pharrell hangs out occasionally, and we’ve had everyone from Adam Levine to Kim Kardashian here.’

The big draw is the pool – run like a beach club, it has big-name DJs from Marshmello to Black Coffee and Steve Aoki doing sets at the weekend.

Finally, lean luxe brand Moxy (rooms from £177pn) has a more playful feel, with artwork designed by a local street artist, a taqueria in the lobby, a bar where everyone gets a welcome glass of prosecco on check-in and a mezcaleria with more than 230 different bottles.

It boasts the biggest rooftop in Miami, with a plunge pool and 360-degree views, but the high point is in-house seafood restaurant Como Como.
