YOU can avoid all human contact amid the coronavirus pandemic on a makeshift island – by staying in a floating barrel.

Dubbed The Salty Seashorse, the floating barrel is located in Key Largo in Florida.

From £209 per person a night, you are unlikely to be interrupted by anyone else.

Inside the red cedar barrel is a queen-sized bed, perfect for two people staying, while outside are deckchairs and a tiki bar.

The decking also has a parasol, BBQ and small whiskey barrel sink, along with views of the Gulf of Mexico.

You are even encouraged to swim, fish and snorkel in the waters around you, with dolphins, tropical fish and manatees to be spotted.

The listing explains: "As you fall asleep at sea you can look up through your panoramic view and gaze upon the moon and stars, letting the sound of the water lull you to sleep.

"While floating on your own secluded private oasis, away from the noise and rush of the world, kick back at your onboard tiki bar."

There is an outdoor shower but if you want something warmer, there is also a password protected heated option onshore.

Non-outdoorsy types can enjoy the flat-screen TV and DVD player in the cabin although there is no WiFi or antenna signal.

Guests are given toiletries and essentials, although as the barrel runs on solar power, high-use appliances such as hair dryers as advised against.

You also need to pack light, with the only way to get to is being a 15-minute ride on a private 9.4ft SunDolphin water tender dinghy.
