Bridezilla turns on wedding guest who stepped in to sing when the band cancelled last-minute – saying she wanted to ‘steal the limelight’ and was ‘nasty and inappropriate’ for wearing white shoes

  • The anonymous user told Mumsnet that bride said she had ‘stole the limelight’
  • She also asked thread if she was wrong for wearing white shoes to the wedding
  • Woman’s husband was best man and has a music background so wanted to help

A woman, who performed at a wedding to lend a hand after the band cancelled on the day, has been called out by an angry bride for upstaging her big day.

Taking to the anonymous parenting platform Mumsnet, one user, who said the wedding did not take place in the UK, asked if she was in the wrong for performing.

The bride accused the woman, whose husband was the best man, of ‘stealing the limelight’ and accused her of wearing ‘inappropriate’ attire because she had white shoes on.

Users were quick to scold the newlywed, as one said the only words she should have said were ‘thank you’ and another called her ‘self absorbed’.

A woman, who performed at a wedding to lend a hand after the band cancelled on the day, has been called out by an angry bride for upstaging her big day

The unnamed Mumsnet user explained that the bride had ‘gone a bit bridezilla’ in the run up to the big day, which took place two weeks ago outside of the UK with around 100 people in attendance.

She added that there was ‘a big argument’ with her husband-to-be, when the bride demanded a veto on all wedding decisions, and wanted to chose the suits.

The woman went on to explain how a member of the band became ill on the day, and they contacted the couple to say they wouldn’t be attending.

She added: ‘My husband is a musician with an audio background – he spoke to the groom, offered to sing and play guitar for their first dance and a few other pieces.

Taking to the anonymous parenting platform Mumsnet , one user asked if she was in the wrong for performing – and also wearing white shoes as the bride wasn’t happy about it

‘I also sometimes sing with my husband (I’m not a professional singer) so I did some backing vocals for the songs.

‘I thought it was quite nice and went quite well all things considered – it was also quite a lot of stress to try and sort out on the day of the wedding to go home and get kit and get things set up without anyone really being aware or missing any part of the day.’

After performing at the wedding, the woman then revealed the bride got in contact, and was less than impressed by their performance.

She continued: ‘I’ve just been messaged by the bride today to say that she’s really hurt that I made “her day” all about me “by stealing the limelight”.

‘I also wore white shoes (with a navy dress) and she’s said it was “totally inappropriate and really nasty”.

Users were quick to scold the newlywed, as one said the only words she should have said were ‘thank you’ and another called her ‘self absorbed’

‘I feel like this is completely absurd – I only sang the backing vocals and, of course, all eyes would’ve been on her.

‘I understand not wearing white to a wedding but I feel like it’s just my shoes – am I wrong here?’

She said that she didn’t want to cause any awkwardness between her husband and his best friend, and asked if she should apologise.

However, users were quick to side with the guest, and many couldn’t believe how ungrateful the bride had been.

One wrote: ‘She can take it up with her husband if he agreed to something she wasn’t comfortable with!’

One user questioned why the bride was being unreasonable and that the woman didn’t get ‘on stage uninvited’ but the helpful singer believes the newlywed was none the wiser

Another said: ‘She sounds very insecure. I’d ignore her, and not do her any favours in future.’

Others branded the bride ‘ridiculous’ for even complaining.

They wrote: ‘She sounds ridiculous! I’m assuming you didn’t get up on stage uninvited, she agreed for you to sing and you sang. Who the hell even notices the colour if someone’s shoes?

The woman replied: ‘I’m not sure if she knew. DH arranged it with the groom because they didn’t want to stress her or worry her on her wedding day.

‘The groom got the phone call so tried to sort it himself. The groom then told the bride (after the ceremony because they didn’t see each other before) that the band couldn’t make it, but not to worry because he’s sorted the music.’

Many also feel this may be a conversation that is needed between the two husbands to see if they could help

One user wrote: ‘Ignore. Don’t reply. Show your husband the message. He can chat to his best friend and the best friend can talk to his wife when she’s less bonkers.

Your husband is friends with the groom, he and the groom can sort it out. Honestly. That’s a ridiculous message. Imagine being married to someone who is such hard work, though!’

Another added: ‘I see you probably don’t want to fall out for the sake of your husband and his best mate but that doesn’t mean you have to be overly friendly with her again. Just be civil and never forget what an ungrateful brat she’s been.’
