Pretty in pink! The Queen is all smiles as she hosts a garden party at her official residence in Scotland – and welcomes the public (and their pets)

The Queen was all smiles as she arrived at a garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on Wednesday.

Donning a bright jacket and matching hat, Her Majesty, 93, looked pretty in pink as she hosts the annual event at her official residence in Scotland. 

She accessorised with a pearl necklace and earrings and coordinated her bright ensemble with her trusted black patent shoes and matching handbag.

During the event, the royal will welcome around 8,000 members of the public in the grounds of the palace.

While she brought the sunshine in her colourful ensemble, the Monarch was prepared for the unpredictable English weather.

Carrying a large umbrella which perfectly matched her outfit, she completed her look with a multi-coloured broach.  

Princess Anne was also in attendance and looked glamorous in a green jacket and hat, which she wore to the side. 

Prince Philip, 98, is also expected to attend and speak to guests, despite having retired from his public duties. 

As those in attendance lined the grounds, the Monarch looked delighted to have been introduced to Becky the guide dog

Following her arrival, she met with members of the Women’s Royal Army Corps Association Scotland, before being introduced to Becky the guide dog. 

Meanwhile, onlookers lined the grounds with their camera phones hoping to capture the perfect picture of Her Majesty. 

Those in attendance have been chosen from a wide range of backgrounds in recognition of the positive impact they have had on their communities.

The event will also feature music from regimental bands and The Royal Scottish Pipers Society.

The royal garden party forms part of Holyrood week, which also includes the ancient Ceremony of the Keys and an investiture.

The Queen bestowed honours on 65 people, including stars of Scottish sport, charity campaigners and military veterans, during an investiture at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Tuesday.

Among them were former chairwoman of Sport Scotland Louise Martin, who brought the Commonwealth Games to Glasgow in 2014, and Scotland rugby great and MND campaigner Doddie Weir.

Throughout the week, Her Majesty has spent time visiting various parts of the country and meeting people from all different walks of life.

On Friday, she visited a school in North Lanarkshire to present awards to pupils and received a Gaelic welcome on her arrival.  

She then met with the Lord Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire and Lanarkshire, before being invited to view an exhibition.

During her visit, local historians explained the school’s history and the monarch viewed a performance by the school’s Pipe Band on the athletic track, before presenting two Provost Community Recognition awards.

She then visited an auditorium where she heard a Gaelic poetry recital by a pupil, while a Gaelic song was performed by a String Ensemble. 

Later that day, the Queen was seen inspecting the Guard of Honour, F Coy Scots Guards, during the Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, in Edinburgh.
