Is Santander bank open today? Coronavirus opening hours and list of closed branches

BANKS across the UK have been forced to close after the coronavirus outbreak.

Halifax, Lloyds and TSB have all temporarily shut branches for the safety of their employees and customers.

Santander last Wednesday (March 18) closed all of its 50 university branches after several universities decided to close their campuses.

A number of other branches have been closed temporarily, and the bank is encouraging its customers to check opening times at their nearby branches using its store locator tool before heading out.

The Sun asked Santander for the number of branches that have been closed but they were unable to confirm.

Santander is also encouraging people to online and mobile banking instead.

For those who had non-essential appointments in branch, they will be having telephone appointments.

A spokeswoman told The Sun: “If customers do require counter services, they can find their nearest open branch using our Branch Locator or their local post office.

“Customers can also find answers to many questions on our website, using our online chat service or through social media.

“Our focus is on the well-being of our employees and our customers and supporting the wider community. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused during this difficult time.”

The news comes as several other shops and banks have temporarily closed after the number of Covid-19 cases increased dramatically.

We’ve made a list of all the stores that are still open under the government’s new rules.

Meanwhile post offices are remaining open as they are an "essential service" according to Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
