Inside Meghan Markle’s ‘month of wanderlust’ in Europe’s most stunning spots

09/01/2019

Since marrying into the royal family, Meghan Markle has been on her fair share of trips abroad.

In 2018, the Duchess of Sussex spent 16 days on her first official tour as she and Harry travelled around Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.

The royal couple fitted in an impressive 76 official engagements – with their every move broadcast to the world.

But there was a time before the fanfare when 38-year-old Meghan took trips abroad for nothing but rest and relaxation – sharing her experiences with her Instagram followers.

Before meeting her future husband and having baby Archie, she explored some of Europe's most stunning spots.

Ibiza

As part of her travels, Meghan took time out to chill in Ibiza.

Known as the ultimate party island, Meghan looked less rave-ready and more poolside chic as she took a dip to cool off.

The Duchess is said to be a huge fan of Ibiza, and celebrated her 38th birthday at a luxurious villa on the island with Prince Harry earlier this year.

Boasting seven-bedrooms, a gym, a jacuzzi and its own 50 metre infinity pool – the sprawling pad is said to have cost £108,000 a week to rent.

The villa lies close to the picturesque village of Es Cubells on the south-western coast of Ibiza.

A description on a luxury villa rental website reads: "Sa Calma in an amazing exclusive front line villa with direct access to the sea.

The royals flew in their own entourage when they arrived by private jet, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Madrid, Spain

Meghan wandered the streets of Madrid as part of her European adventure.

She shared a picture of her looking Insta-perfect for her fans, standing alongside Markus Anderson, a consultant for Soho House Group, and fashion designer, Misha Nonoo.

Nonoo has a royal connection of her own as her brother-in-law, Charlie Gilkes, was a classmate of Prince William’s at Eton.

While in the Spanish capital, Markle is said to have checked out the Museo Prado, ate plenty of tapas and danced in the streets.

Earlier this year it was revealed Meghan Markle's lookalike was running to be Mayor of Madrid.

Begoña Villacis, 40, was widely compared to the Duchess throughout her electoral campaign not only for her similar looks but also for her strikingly similar outfits.

She also gave birth less than two weeks after Meghan.

Capri, Italy

Next on Meghan's month of wanderlust came Capri, in Italy.

The island in the Bay of Naples is known for its rugged landscape, upmarket hotels and shopping.

While it's likely Meghan and pals hit some of the designer shops, the actress also reportedly watched an episode of Suits in Italian.

Pictured yet again in her trusty holiday hat, Meghan shared an image of her relaxing on a veranda with stylist friend Jessica Mulroney.

The two met when Meghan was filming Suits

As a stylist, Mulroney helped up Meghan’s wardrobe game, a mutual friend explained to the Express .

They said: "Meghan adores Jessica, not just as a friend but also as someone whose taste and style are impeccable."

Positano, Italy

Moving up the Amalfi coast, Meghan and her gal pals headed to Positano.

The stunning cliffside village on southern Italy's Amalfi Coast is famed for its incredible vistas – and is very Instagram-worthy.

Meghan and friends checked into the La Sirenuse hotel – offering breathtaking views of the village and out to sea.

The Duchess and Jessica Mulroney were said to have wined and dined on some of the best food and drink Positano has to offer – including meats, cheese and olives.

The village is a popular holiday destination, overlooking a pebble beach with beautiful cafes and restaurants.

Other celebrities to have visited the village include Gwyneth Paltrow, Emily Ratajkowski and Karlie Kloss.

Hydra, Greece

Meghan shared another stunning image from her month-long trip after touching down in Greece.

The Duchess visited Hydra, one of the Saronic Islands, for low-key bachelorette party for one of her best friends, Lindsay Roth.

Meghan travelled around the island on foot and bike – once saying on her blog, The Tig, that 'theres not much to do, which is the whole point'.

As part of the bachelorette party, Meghan organised for the two of them, along with their other pal Lucy, to take some time out on the island to sunbathe, eat and drink.

Writing on The Tig, Meghan said: "When my best friend, Lindsay , announced she and her beau would be tying the knot, the pressure I felt as maid of honor was immense.
