Bloke shows how much dirt was in ‘clean’ towels after soaking them in bath

How clean are your towels?

Even if you wash them regularly, there may be hidden dirt lurking inside them.

In a Facebook post, a bloke revealed how much grime can be hiding without you noticing.

Jared Guynes wrote: "My wife watched some thing online about 'Towel Stripping' where you do a deep clean of towels.

"In this case she took our collection of clean towels, let me say that again, the towels were totally clean, washed and folded and in the linen closet.

"So she took those clean towels… and let these things soak overnight.”

After leaving the towels to soak, the couple made a gross discovery.

Jared shared a picture of bath water that turned a murky shade of brown.

This is partly because of brown dye stripped off from the towels he was soaking – but it is also due to hidden grime.

He added: “This water is the result… I’m literally freaking out right now.

"The towels at your house, no matter how clean you think they are, are probably this nasty too.”

Even though the post started circulating back in June, it’s received plenty of attention in recent days.

It was posted on the Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It group, where members were equally as horrified.

One responder wrote: "This makes me want to do our towels."

And another said: "I’ve done my all white towels, water was grey when they were done.

"Now I’m off using softener or gel wash. It adds so much build up over time."

So do we recommend "stripping" your towels?

If you wash them on a hot wash regularly, it's probably not going to be necessary.

Experts have debated about how successful the method is for cleaning.

If you're determined to give the technique a go though, be sure not to mix products together that could cause a dangerous reaction.

Place them in a bath of hot water overnight with washing detergent and let them soak for at least 12 hours.

You may be surprised at how much dirt comes off.
