Coronavirus restrictions have increased in the UK and have affected the food industry. McDonald’s has shared an update on its dine-in and takeaway services and shared new rules for customers.

With the UK entering a new lockdown, most restaurants have been forced to close.

Customers are not allowed to dine-in which means restaurants can only offer takeaways.

McDonald’s has shared an update on how customers can order in its branches.

The fast food favourite has around 1,300 restaurants across the country.

While McDonald’s will remain open, it has introduced a number of changes.

A post on McDonald’s UK Twitter stated: “Following the government announcements, we are pleased to remain open, but with a few changes.

“We know this is a really difficult time for everyone and we really appreciate your patience and kindness, both with our crew and online.”

It said that, while restaurants will remain open, dine-in and walk-in takeaway services closed from 11pm last night.

The statement posted last night read: “Our restaurants across the UK & Ireland will be open for drive-thru and McDelivery.

“Click & Serve through the McDonald’s app will be available at our drive-thru restaurants.

“Dine-in and walk-in takeaway service will be temporarily closed in all restaurants from 11pm tonight while we review and verify any additional enhanced safety measures for these services.”

The takeaway joint explained customers will no longer be allowed to visit restaurants to dine-in.

Fast food fans were encouraged to follow the new guidance and be patient when visiting restaurants.

“With smaller teams and social distancing in the kitchen it will take longer to serve you,” the statement continued.

“Our restaurant teams are working incredibly hard in difficult circumstances, your kindness and patience is greatly appreciated.”

The post gathered 148 retweets and 368 “likes” as McDonald’s fans shared their support.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the lockdown in England in a statement on Monday.

He explained restaurants had to close for dine-ins but would be able to sell food and soft drinks for delivery.

Restaurant chains are also permitted to offer click and collect and takeaways.

The selling of takeaway alcohol, however, has been banned during the lockdown.
