IN a little black dress with plunging neckline and thigh-high split, Princess Diana had never looked sexier. 

And this show-stopping outfit was no accident – that night, her estranged husband Prince Charles gave a TV interview admitting he had been cheating on her with Camilla Parker-Bowles.

While some women in her position might hide away and feel embarrassed by Charles' admissions, Princess Di fought back and proved she was far from a scorned wife by wearing the most iconic revenge dress of all time.

As with so many other things, Diana proved she was a trendsetter – and dozens of other celebs have followed in her stiletto-heeled footsteps and donned their own versions following painful splits.

The affair with a sex worker

Elizabeth Hurley started dating Hugh Grant in 1987, but juts a few years later the couple were rocked by a scandal which saw Hugh arrested for lewd conduct with an American sex worker.

Grant apologised for the incident in a 1995 episode of The Tonight Show, where he told host Jay Leno:

"You know in life what's a good thing to do and a bad thing to do. I did a bad thing."

The pair stayed together until 2000, when Liz ended things claiming Hugh had become too 'annoying'.

They split amicably, and remain friends to this day – but just weeks later she went on to show Hugh exactly what he was missing when she arrived at a fashion event in a plunging gold dress.

The rumours about Angie

Jennifer Aniston's divorce from Brad Pitt, in 2005 after five years of marriage came out of the blue to many fans.

At the time, rumours were rife that the 42-year-old had fallen for Mr & Mrs Smith co-star Angelina Jolie, who he went on to marry.

The heartbroken Friends star, then 36, kept it classy at her first appearance following news of the split in a Chanel frock when she attended the Derailed premiere in New York City.

Moving on with her mate

When Bella Hadid and The Weeknd split in November 2016, she had no idea he would be dating one of her best mates less than two months later.

The singer was snapped smooching Bella's former pal Selena Gomez outside a restaurant in Santa Monica in January, and Bella reacted by arriving at her next public event in a sheer dress which showed her nipples.

Later that year, she had to walk past him in her underwear at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, where he was performing.

After seeing her strut her stuff in her smalls, The Weeknd reached out to Bella and they reconnected.

Broke off engagement after four years

Little Mix's Perrie was devastated when Zayn Malik called off their engagement after four years together.

The couple had been plagued by cheating rumours – and then just weeks after they split Zayn was seen canoodling with Gigi Hadid in a hotel room.

Perrie broke down on stage in front of fans as she sang some of the love songs she had written for him.

But after taking some time out to get her head around what had happened, the Little Mixer came back with a bang in a white see-through revenge dress.

The split over different beliefs

Nicole Kidman and husband Tom Cruise, then 39, announced their divorce in 2001 following rumours that Tom's Scientology beliefs caused a rift between them.

But in the same week, the pair were both duty bound to attend the LA premiere of their new film, The Others.

Nicole, then 34, knew what she had to do, and slipped into a figure-hugging strapless LBD which made the cover of every women's magazine that week.

While they strategically managed to avoid each other on the red carpet, we're sure Tom saw the stunning snaps of her the next day.

An affair with a co-star

Reese Witherspoon was left devastated when she found out her husband – and father of her two kids – Ryan Phillippe, then 33, had been allegedly having an affair with his Stop Loss co-star Abbie Cornish in 2007.

But at her first public appearance following the split, Reese rocked up in a bright yellow strapless dress which screamed happy vibes.

Flirting with 'beautiful girls'

Everyone hoped Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber would stand the test of time after dating on and off from 2010 to 2014.
