Instead, interior design expert Kate Kerdi, who is from the US, has revealed some simple top tips on how you can prevent your home from looking cheap.
So, have you made any of the mistakes?
In a video shared to TikTok, she lists some of the most common offenders – including basic light fixtures, a cluttered shoe rack and matching furniture sets.
She then goes on to say exposed cords, wrong furniture placement and mass-produced artwork are also a no-go if you're hoping to make your home look more luxurious.

Finally, according to the interior design expert, the wrong rug size, fake plants, blank walls and lack of window treatments can also contribute to that "tacky" feel.
And it wasn't long before Kate's social media followers took to the comments section – with a very mixed response.
"Matching furniture sets are terrible!! I can’t stand how it looks," agreed one, while a second enthused: "Love these tips!"
A third praised: "You are so on point!"

"I have hand me down furniture in different styles and kinds of wood cause we have never had the money to choose our own furniture or add anything."
In response, Kate commented: "Buying furniture sets is sometimes more expensive than buying items separate.
And they don’t have to be expensive for the room to look good."
A further defended the interior designer and noted: "Everyone mad but this is 100p true and doesn’t require a ton of money to not do these things."
