Taylor Swift Opens Up About What It Would’ve Meant For ‘Only The Young’ To Receive An Oscar Nomination

Taylor Swift‘s “Only The Young” has been deemed not eligible for the Best Original Song at the 2021 Oscars.

The song, which was included in her documentary Miss Americana, wasn’t on the list when the Motion Picture Academy released its shortlists of the movies and music that will compete for the Oscar in a few of the major categories.

While not eligible, Taylor did open up in a new interview with Vanity Fair about what it would have meant for her to have been nominated.

“It would mean a great deal to me, especially since ‘Only the Young’ immortalizes such a pivotal moment in my life and our country’s mobilization to move together toward change,” she shared. “I would be incredibly honored to be included. But I am absolutely terrified to go further into the daydream for fear of jinxing it.”

“This particular song, and the process of creating it, was a perfect example of how visceral writing a song can be,” Taylor continued. “You try to transport yourself back to a time you felt intense emotion and write from that place. … Every once in a blue moon, you end up in the studio at the exact moment you’re feeling that raw emotion.”

She added, “I didn’t want the defeat and hopelessness I felt for our country’s future to get the best of me. I didn’t want to weep. I wanted to have hope. Writing ‘Only the Young’ helped me push through that moment in my life and gave me the hope to keep fighting for what I believe is right.”

Just recently, it was clarified if Taylor‘s re-recorded albums might be eligible for the Grammys. See the verdict here…
