X Factor’s Christopher Maloney is left ‘devastated’ as his father tragically dies leaving him ‘broken-hearted’

Christopher Maloney has been left devastated as his father, also named Chris, has died.

Former X Factor star Christopher, 45, who found fame on the ITV show in 2012, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce the sad news.

In the post, he said that his ‘world had fallen apart’ after his father passed away at 8am on Tuesday morning.

Uploading two quotes, one that read ‘R.I.P Dad’ and another that said, ‘I was never ready for you to leave’, Christopher said he will be ‘taking a break from social media’ following the sudden death.

He said: ‘So today my world has fallen apart… At 8am this morning my beautiful Dad has suddenly passed away at home.

‘I am totally devastated and broken hearted beyond any words. Thank you in advance for any well wishes or messages and I will now be taking a social media break.’

Christopher finished his post with the touching tribute: ‘Love you Dad with all of my heart. REST IN PEACE xx’

The news comes after a tough time for Chris and his own health.

He nearly lost his life after eating a bad Chinese takeaway that caused his organs to start shutting down.

Christopher  told how he was rushed to hospital after a parasite embedded itself in his large intestine, giving him colitis of the colon.

Christopher recalled how he ate a meal of crispy duck and pancakes and started to feel ill around five hours later and is now left with a lifelong condition.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: ‘I was literally on the floor and in the toilet, I was ill, it was just horrendous.

‘I had fever, I had hallucinations and I couldn’t sleep because I was constantly going to the toilet and vomiting.’

The terrifying ordeal happened while he was celebrating his birthday on Boxing Day in 2019 with the cast of the Cinderella panto he was starring in at the time.

Shocking: The news comes after Christopher himself revealed earlier this year that he nearly died after eating a bad Chinese takeaway that caused his organs to start shutting down

Christopher said: ‘I honestly nearly died, my organs were shutting down. I nearly died. They were going to remove my colon and put me on a colostomy bag.’

The performer was struck down with Campylobacter E-Coli, which can be fatal.

He spent two weeks in intensive care and another two having tests which showed he developed a lifelong condition.

Christopher said at the time it would take around 12 months for him to fully recover and feel normal again.

According to the NHS, ulcerative colitis is a long-term condition where the colon and rectum become inflamed.

For some people, like Christopher, the condition can have a significant impact on their day-to-day lives.

Christopher rose to fame after appearing on the ninth series of The X Factor where he finished in third place.

He later opened a performing arts school in Liverpool in 2014 and appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2016.
