TUI cancels all 2020 holidays to Lapland

Those who had booked a trip to Lapland this winter with TUI will no longer be able to go visit the reindeer.

Lapland, in Finland, is a popular destination at this time of year, with Santa’s grottos, reindeer, and a pretty good chance that holidaymakers will see the Northern Lights.

However, due to coronavirus, major tour operator TUI has suspended all holidays to the festive location.

In a statement on their website, they wrote: ‘We regret to confirm that we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to suspend holidays to Lapland this winter, due to the continued uncertainty surrounding travel and the unprecedented impact of COVID-19.

‘Visiting Santa is a truly magical, once-in-a-lifetime experience and we’ve been working extremely hard in recent months to ensure we can keep the magic alive and guarantee families a safe and enjoyable holiday.

‘However, with the rapidly evolving travel environment and restrictions in place for Finland, we’ve decided that on this occasion, we wouldn’t be able to deliver on this promise and we wanted to remove uncertainty for families.

‘The health, safety and enjoyment of customers and colleagues continues to be our number one priority.’

TUI added that they’ll be contacting customers affected by the decision in due course. The options available will be a refund for those who cancel, an ATOL-protected credit note, or a booking amendment for those who wish to take the holiday at a later date.

All holidays booked with TUI from England and Wales until 2 December have also been suspended, due to a lockdown ban on international travel.

It might be a lonely one for Santa, but he’ll still have his naughty and nice lists and Christmas will still come.
