Ryanair cancels flights to popular European destination

RYANAIR has cancelled a number of flights this weekend and Brits heading to Europe will be affected.

Some lights operated by Belgian cabin crews this weekend will be cancelled due to planned strike action.

The cancellations will impact around half of the scheduled flights out of Brussels and Charleroi airports this weekend.

Ryanair employs 650 staff members in Belgium, with 400 of those being cabin crew members.

A statement from Ryanair explained that all affected customers will be notified by email and advised of their options, such as flight changes or refunds.

The airline said they were "confident" that more than 50 per cent of the flights will still operate as scheduled.

They have also asked customers travelling this weekend to check the status of their flight on the Ryanair app.

It is reported that Belgian cabin crew members are taking strike action due to disagreement over staff pay and basic labor rights, citing in one example "staff members who are no longer allowed to fly due to pregnancy… have been without wages or benefits for months."

Ryanair's cancellation policy allows passengers to change their flight, be put on the next available flight, or claim a full refund.

If another direct flight can not be found, the airline will look to alternative transport such as train, bus, airline or car hire.

Ryanair's People Director, Darrell Hughes, said: "It is incredibly frustrating that [trade union] CNE have continuously rejected offers of mediation and seem intent in causing unwarranted disruptions to thousands of Ryanair customers this weekend.

"Having worked closely with our people through a difficult Covid recovery phase, CNE should now be working with Ryanair to deliver negotiated solutions instead of engaging in this premature and pointless strike.

"Ryanair remains available for negotiation or mediation and calls on CNE to cancel this strike action that will disrupt our customers and their families, many of whom are planning their first holiday in two years."

The budget airline recently launched 10 new routes from the UK, including flights to Spanish islands and Italy.
