IF you want to get into the Christmas spirit, then there is a UK village you should visit during the festive season.

Shere, a village in Surrey, may not seem like much apart from a quaint little part of England.

It dates back to 1086 when it was mentioned in the Domesday Book and was even held by William the Conqueror.

However, it has been made famous over the years thanks to the Christmas film The Holiday.

The White Horse pub was used to film some of the scenes, including one with Jude Law.

There is now even a plaque on the wall commemorating The Holiday.

Guests have raved about the pub, praising both the staff and the food.

One person called it a "quaint old pub full of character".

And another said they had their "best meal all year" at The White Horse pub.

Many of the countryside scenes from The Holiday were also shot in Shere.

To get in the festive mood, there are often lots of Christmas events in Shere.

Carols in the Square is the popular annual event, along with Christmas film nights at the cinema and festive tours.

And it's not just The Holiday that films there – The Wedding Date as well as Bridget Jones was shot there too.

The village itself is home to just 4,000 people and has a number of charming places to visit.

This includes the cute tearoom called the Dabbling Duck which serves tea and cake, as well as sweetshop Shere Delights and restaurant Kinghams.

Tourists can also pop into the Cuckoo Corner gift shop, which is described as an "Aladdin's cave" of gifts.

Most people who live there are London commuters, although it was named one of the "coolest places to live" in a 2023 study.

It was also named one of England's most beautiful villages by The Telegraph.

It will cost you to live there though – the average house price is £1.2million.

To get to Shere, it takes around 1hr40 minutes, with trains from London Victoria.
