Popular land at Thorpe Park to close after 10 years – and fans are absolutely gutted | The Sun

THEME Park fans have been left feeling gutted after Thorpe Park confirmed a popular land would be leaving after ten years.

Since 2014, the Angry Birds themed land has entertained guests on three main attractions, with branding themed around the popular game and film franchise.

However, the resort has now confirmed that something else "equally vibrant" will be replacing the area when it opens for its 2024 season.

In a statement on their Facebook page, Thorpe Park said: "After 10 action-packed years, the Angry Birds are taking flight from Thorpe Park.

"Throughout their decade of fast-paced adventures in the UK’s most thrilling theme park, the flock ensured guests were left with memories to last a lifetime.

"The removal of Angry Birds land will make way for an equally vibrant brand-new land which will be coming to Thorpe Park in 2024."

The news was accompanied by a video of the land, showing all the shops and decorations that will be missing next year.

The park also shared the video to YouTube, where fans said they would miss the Angry Birds land.

One wrote: "That land was incredible. I have so many memories and I’m so sad to see it go."

Another said: "Bye Angry Birds land, you will be missed."

A third added: "Thanks for making Angry Birds come to life. I hope the land turns to a Jurassic world or video game land."

Although the land is set to be transformed, the park has revealed that some of the most popular rides in it would be sticking around.

The area's main three attractions include the Detonator free-fall tower, the King Pig's Wild Hog dodgems and an Angry Birds 4D cinema. 

Thorpe Park responded to some comments on their Facebook post confirming these attractions would be staying, but said they be completely rebranded, with the Angry Birds stuff set to be removed.

They said: "All the current attractions will remain with a new look."

It's not the only change to be unveiled when Thorpe Park opens again next year, with the UK's tallest and fastest rollercoaster currently being constructed.

Hyperia will reach heights of 236ft and speeds over 80mph and will be the park's first new major attraction since The Swarm opened in 2012.

It will boast three inversions, including some of the highest in Europe, as well as a "splash down" element, for which the ride will splash into a lake near the end of its journey.

In a separate post, Thorpe Park wrote: "We're super sad our 2023 season has come to a close, but it means next time we open our gates it will be Hyperia season!

"We've had an epic year with you and can't wait to welcome you back for another awesome season with our record-breaking rollercoaster opening in 2024!

"Who can't wait to ride on the UK's Tallest and Fastest Rollercoaster?"
