Lidl fans praise 'most beautiful supermarket in the world' – and it's found in Portugal

WHILE LIDL is one of the most popular supermarkets in the UK, the buildings are often nothing special to look at.

However, one of the supermarket chains in Portugal has been dubbed the most beautiful Lidl in the world.

Located in Bombarral, less than an hour north of Lisbon, the supermarket is located in what appears to be a former church.

The round glass windows and steepled roof remains, while the supermarket is built into the ground floor.

One person said: "The most beautiful Lidl I've ever seen in my life, if you are not paying attention as you walk by. Maybe you wouldn't notice it's a Lidl."

However, another social media user revealed a Lidl in Greece which could give the Portuguese version a run for its money.

Located on the Greek island of Santorini, the Lidl is in-keeping with the island's iconic white and blue curved buildings.

The supermarket is found in the town of Fira, with one social media user writing: "I want to go to the Santorini Lidl!"

In Dublin, a glass floor was installed at a Lidl earlier this year, revealing the ruins of a 1,000-year-old Viking-Irish house underneath.

Lidl is opening 50 new stores in the UK this year, adding to their 860 branches.

Along with Aldi, Lidl is often crowned the cheapest supermarkets – which is thanks to their low running costs and a limited amount of products.

Tourists have also found the most beautiful McDonalds restaurants in the world,including in Japanese shrines and listed train stations.

The fanciest Greggs can be found on Bury St Edmunds on Abbeygate Street, in a Grade II listed building dating back to the 17th century.
