Jet2 cancels all flights and holidays to Tenerife, Majorca, Ibiza, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote until August 10

JET2 has cancelled all holidays and flights to the Balearic and Canary Islands until August 10, after the quarantine-free air bridge was axed.

It comes just 24 hours after the company scrapped all flights to mainland Spain until August 17.

A Jet2 spokesperson said: “Following the latest government advice regarding travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands from the UK, we have taken the decision to suspend flights and holidays to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza up to and including 9th August.

“We have already suspended flights and holidays to our destinations in Mainland Spain (Costa de Almeria, Alicante, Malaga and Murcia) up to and including 16th August."

Customers affected by any changes to flights or holidays are being offered a range of options, including rebooking with no admin fee, a credit note or a cash refund.

Jet2 says that it will be contacting customers to discuss their options.

Travellers who are currently in the Canary and Balearic Islands with flights booked to return to the UK will also be contacted by Jet2.

The travel company has said that it will reassess the cut-off date of August 10 when they receive more information from the government on whether Brits can travel to the Spanish islands.

The spokesperson added: “What we need now is clarity and consistency from the government.

"We understand that this is a fast-moving situation, however the information we are receiving is contradictory and often comes with little or no notice."

On Saturday the UK government announced that people travelling from Spain from July 26 will have to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.

Before, the UK had allowed Brits to travel to the holiday hotspot without needing to self-quarantine on return.

But after a spike in coronavirus cases in Spain, holidaymakers in the country – including Balearic island hotspots like Majorca and Ibiza – will now be forced to quarantine for two weeks upon returning home to the UK.

It is thought more than 600,000 British tourists will be affected by the restrictions as many already on holiday or having booked one face uncertainty as to whether their trip will still go ahead.

EasyJet flights to Spain are still going ahead as planned, although the airline has cancelled package holidays until August 1.

Ryanair flights to mainland Spain are still running, but all TUI package holidays have been cancelled until August 9.

TUI has also cancelled all flights and holidays to the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands.
