Guide to a great day out in Nottingham – from the Playhouse to Sneinton Market

Nottingham never on your list of places to visit?

With fabulous food, shops and markets packed into the city centre, it certainly should be.

But don’t take it from us!

Local Katharina Linnenbrink, owner of Little Brickhouse Café in the city centre, is here to tell you everything you need to know about this city.

Find her café at 110 Derby Road and read on below for her local’s guide to Nottingham.

This is a Japanese grill, a beautiful little spot hidden away near the market square with a really relaxed vibe: nice music, beautiful dishes, a lot of skewers, a menu that changes all the time and the best Korean rice cakes ever!

It’s a very old building but done out in modern Japanese minimalist style.

Drink at: The Hand And Heart

This is a very old pub just opposite us and it does the best Sunday lunches in Nottingham, I would say.

And to drink all their real ales, there are caves at the back of the pub: Nottingham is a city of caves, the most caves in Britain. The pub has been here a really long time and has a lovely, lovely landlady called Dawn.

Shop at: 18 Montrose

This is a really cool store. They sell everything from Acne Studios to Aesop, loads of great trainers, pretty high-end, clothes, perfumes, everything.

It’s very luxurious and it’s in a really lovely area, which is Bridlesmith Gate, which has been there since the Middle Ages.

Gig at: Nottingham Playhouse

More plays than gigs, this is not a huge theatre but is very cosy and lovely with an outside seating area so you can sit out and have a drink. It has a real independent feel and it’s right in the city centre.

It’s quite a modern building and I’ve seen so many things there: little productions, plays…

Don’t miss: Sneinton Market

On a Saturday you have lots of independent makers and shakers who sell their produce here.

There’s a vegan market every so often, street food, lots of different types of traders and then they have beers from the Neon Raptor brewery, everything in one place.

It’s a new concept in the Creative Quarter and it’s like Nottingham revived.
