Cruise worker reveals hidden areas on board her ship – including secret bars, games rooms and shop | The Sun

A CRUISE worker has revealed the secret areas that staff have access to on board the ships, away from the guests.

While there's plenty for people to do during cruise holidays, it turns out there's even more for those who live and work on the ships.

A Tiktoker known as Kookie (@cruisingwithkay) spends seven months a year living on board on of the liners.

She recently gave a behind the scenes tour of one of the ships to her followers, showing them the secret areas only staff have access to.

In the video, she said: "I work and live on a cruise ship for seven months a year and work seven days a week.

"Today I'm going to give you a behind the scenes tour of our crew areas."

The first area she showed was a computer lab, where she and her colleagues can keep in touch with their family members.

From there she went into one of two crew bars, both off limits to guests on board.

They contained games, pool tables and other ways to keep staff occupied when they're not working.

She continued: "The crew bar is a place for us to relax during the day. We have pool tables. There are video games, and you can grab a drink outside back deck, where we also host our parties.

"Or there's one inside with some fancy coffee machines. We have a nice lounge area with some instruments where some people like to play live.

"And in the back, we have darts, foosball and ping pong."

Lastly she took her followers on a tour of the ship's grocery store, which is known as the Slop Chest.

She revealed just how much stuff she and her fellow cruise workers are able to get on from the shop.

She added: "Last but not least is our mini grocery store called the Slop Chest.

"Somebody in the comments asked how we get feminine products on board, and luckily they do supply them for us.

"The Slop Chest is like a miniature Walmart, and we have everything in here that you can think of.

"There's deodorant, toothpaste, hairspray, literally anything and everything, but most importantly, snacks.

"It's really cool, too, because some of the snacks are from other countries like the Philippines.

"If you have a sweet tooth just like me, there's tons of chocolates and candies and sodas to choose from."

Kookie's video has been seen almost 370,000 times, with plenty of people keen to join her on board.

One wrote: "That’s so awesome. When I retire I’m gonna live on a cruise ship."

Another said: "How do I get a job doing this?"

A third added: "I need to apply for a job that looks cool."

Kookie isn't the only crew member to reveal secrets about cruises.

Cruise worker and Tiktoker Drew Boudreau (@drewboudreau) revealed how much he pays for drinks on board compared to the "out of this world" prices he would see passengers pay.

In a video on Tiktok, he said: "Here's something fun they don't tell you about working on cruise ships – and I mean fun. Liquor is unbelievably cheap for the crew.

"For passengers it's like out of this world, but if you work on a cruise ship, it's the opposite.

"When I was stage managing for a big cruise line, I would go to the crew bar and a beer was 75 cents (62p) and a cocktail was $1.25 (£1)."

Drew suggested that he paid a tenth of what the cruise guests were forking out, which he said allowed crew members to develop a real "sense of comradery".

He added: "You buy 10 beers for your buddies, you're out $10 (£8.28) instead of $100 (£82).

"Because it's a party, they can charge people whatever they want for drinks, and they'll pay."
