With travel hopefully back to normal by summer thanks to the vaccine rollout, there's plenty of scope for booking a staycation.

Holidays in England can go ahead at self-contained holiday lets from April 12, the Prime Minister has announced, so long as coronavirus rates continue to fall.

From May 17, hotels are allowed to reopen and holiday homes can be let to groups of up to six people from different households or groups from two households with no cap on size.

If you are planning on booking a break, here's our pick of the best alternative accommodation options around the UK.

The Gatehouse Lodge, Grantham, Lincolnshire

With room for two this cosy restored Victorian Gatehouse is perfect for a romantic break.

Overlooking beautiful walled gardens in the Lincolnshire countryside, it has lots of original features but the interiors are light and modern.

The sitting room leads out to a private terrace where you can relax with an evening drink, and if the weather disappoints, the underfloor heating andwood-burning stove with an unlimited supply of logs will keep you toasty.

It costs £580 per week to stay here, meaning two people can stay for seven nights from £41 per person per night.

Treehouse Retreat, Elham, East Kent
