Brit holidaymakers face night curfews in Tenerife and Gran Canaria
12/30/2021BRITS visiting the Canary Islands face new night-time curfews on New Year's Eve.
In a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus, the Canary government plans to implement new night-time curfews.
The curfews would cover the nights of New Year's Eve, January 1 and January 5.
The Canary government has asked the Superior Court to back the emergency measure for any of the islands which are on Level 2 or 3 Covid alert.
The request coincides with a new day of record infections in the Canary Islands – almost 4,000 positive cases.
On Level 3 alert are Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, and on Level 2 alert are La Palma and La Gomera.
The curfew would be between 1am and 6am in Level 3 areas, and 2am and 6am in Level 2 areas.
The courts have the grant permission for the curfews before they can be implemented.

The curfews would come as another blow to the tourism industry in Spain which has been hit hard by Covid restrictions.
To enter Spain, all people over the age of 12 must be fully vaccinated.
This rule prompted thousands of Brits to cancel their holidays as most teens are not fully vaccinated due to the UK vaccine rollout schedule.
Additionally, all travellers returning to the UK must take a pre-departure test, which can cost as much as £100pp – boosting the price of a holiday for a family of four by £400.
From next year, Benidorm holidays could cost more due to a new tourist tax.
