ALTON Towers has announced that it's launching a huge new ride based on David Walliams' popular children's book, Gangsta Granny.

And fans can even stay over at new themed rooms at the Alton Towers Hotel.

Alton Towers first announced the World of David Walliams last year, revealing that many of the characters featured in his books will be brought to life in the dedicated land.

The theme park has now revealed that the star attraction will be called Gangsta Granny: The Ride, based on David's popular book.

The book, which was published in 2013 by Harper Collins, is about a boy call Ben who discovered that his Granny is actually an international jewel thief.

The story will be brought to life as a new 4D experience where guests will join the main characters in the book as they attempt to steal the crown jewels in what's supposed to be the greatest heist in the history of the world.

The experience begins with a crown jewels tour on board the "Royal Carriage".

But guests are soon caught up in Ben and his Granny's adventure, where they will following the pair down sewers, be chased through the streets of London and come face to face with the Queen.

Alton Towers said the ride will "whizz, twist and spin passengers 360° through a series of scenes where they will see, feel, hear and even smell an electrifying and unique re-telling of the Gangsta Granny story".

There will be special effects, and 3D projections and animation so guests are fully immersed into the story.

Aside from the Gangsta Granny ride, guests can also explore other areas in the David Walliams attraction.

There will be crazy bargains in Raj's Shop, a Royal Carousel, and Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp.

Fans can even sleep in the new Gangsta Granny rooms in the Alton Towers Hotel.

Alton Towers haven't confirmed an official opening date yet, but said that it will be in spring.

However, the park will be opening for its 2020 season on March 21.

Tickets for the park are currently £34 for adults and £28.50 for kids if you book online.

Alton Towers will be opening during February half term for the first time this year.

The park is one of several that offers a rainy-day guarantee that lets you return for free if your visit is a wash out.
