Los Angeles is one of the world-famous destinations that often features on people's bucket lists and it's not difficult to see why.

Home to Hollywood, the City of Angels is synonymous with glitz and glamour – but the good news is that you don't need a celebrity budget to visit.

Whether you're searching for your favourite celeb's star along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, doing some window shopping on Rodeo Drive or exploring Venice Beach, the city is filled with fun attractions and must-visit spots.

It may be one of LA's iconic sights but you won't need to spend a penny if you want to visit.

Simply head to Hollywood and wander along the pavements, taking in the names of the celebrities who have been honoured with stars.

You can buy maps to make things a little easier, but if you are looking for a specific celebrity ten the official website has a useful Star Finder tool to give you a helping hand.

Rodeo Drive

Rodeo Drive is packed with high end, designer shops but that also means you could have a better chance of spotting a famous face or two.

While you can of course go on a splurge, the tourist spot is also a great place to wander around and do some window shopping, not to mention it's served as a filming location in plenty of iconic films – for example, it's here that Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman got sweet revenge on a snooty shop assistant.

TCL Chinese Theatre

This theatre is a must-visit for any Hollywood fan.

Not only has it previously served as the setting for the Oscars on numerous occasions (they're now held at the nearby Dolby Theatre), but nowadays the theatre is still home to all the latest film premieres, not to mention it boasts one of the largest film screens in North America.

Hollywood sign

It's one of LA's most famous landmarks, and one that draws in millions of visitors every year.

Each letter is 45-feet-tall and there are plenty of great viewing spots from the Griffith Observatory to Mulholland Drive.

Be warned that it can get quite busy at the top vantage points – so much in fact that local authorities are considering a second Hollywood sign.

Universal Studios Hollywood

Film buffs and theme park fans alike can get their fill at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Take one of the behind-the-scenes set tours and explore thrilling rides from Harry Potter offerings to Fast & Furious or even King Kong.

Oh, and keep an eye out for its thrilling new Jurassic World ride!

Beverly Hills

The ultimate celebrity-spotting destination, this is renowned for being home to the A-list.

There are guided tours you can opt for which take you past some of the stars' homes, but we'd suggest looking out for the ones that include some of the top landmarks and historic sights not to miss – there's much more to Beverly Hills than stars.

Santa Monica Pier

A short drive away from downtown Los Angeles, entrance to the Santa Monica Pier is free, although the individual rides and attractions do charge small fees.

The amusement park offers something for everyone from a ferris wheel to a rollercoaster as well as arcade games.

The Griffith Observatory

Not only does the Griffith Observatory offer up incredible views of the city (Hollywood Sign included) but you can also make the most of the fascinating exhibits and live shows for a fascinating glimpse into the universe.

There are plenty of telescopes on offer for stargazers, and the Observatory also holds public viewings for most lunar and solar eclipses.

Runyon Canyon 

If you like making the most of the great outdoors or fancy a scenic hike, then Runyon Canyon needs to be on your radar.

The park offers heaps of trails whether you're a beginner or want to take on a new challenge – but either way pack plenty of water and some sturdy shoes!

The Getty Museum

One of the world's largest art galleries, the Getty consists of two hubs; the Getty Center and the Getty Villa.

You can easily while away a few hours in both making the most of the art exhibits, picturesque gardens and eye-catching architecture.
