  • Americans have only just discovered how Brits like their Chinese takeaways and they've been left horrified.

Videos of British TikTok creators unpacking their Chinese orders have apparently been flooding the For You Page of those in the US recently, leading to some pretty intense drama.

While a Chinese takeaway is a firm favourite in the UK, it's been hailed as "disgusting" and "odd" by those across the pond.

The Americans are baffled by the classic British Chinese order, finding the addition of curry sauce, chicken balls and "French fries" particularly shocking.

They've slammed the food for looking "fried" and "bland" and have even criticised Brits for calling it "a Chinese".

Discussing the trending takeaway videos, one American TikTok creator, who goes by the username @stayathomenojob, came out with some controversial opinions.

She said: "The UK must have a universal menu for their Chinese takeout because every single person on this platform from the UK that has posted videos of their Chinese takeout, it's the same exact things, not one ounce of greenery, every single person has curry sauce, everything looks fried."

Reacting to a series of pictures showing some very classic-looking Chinese takeaways, she continued: "First off, French fries? French fries?! Again the curry sauce, the French fries, it's all fried. Where's the broccoli beef? where's the string beans? You cannot tell me that this plate looks appetising."

Mimicking a British accent, she added: "Are the British eating out the dumpster?"

Fellow Americans in the comment section agreed with her.

One person said: "It looks disgusting".

Another wrote: "The way they dump the curry sauce all over all the food there's no way that s**t tastes good."

A third added: "I completely agree, French fries and curry sauce is NOOOO."

Some even began insulting British food as a whole.

"They have beans and toast for breakfast this is an upgrade", one person wrote.

Another said: "British food looks so cold and so bland at the same time. Just no colour or anything. It's like they don't put an emphasis on cooking."

But furious Brits came out in force to defend their beloved Chinese.

One commenter said: "Mmm I really fancy string beans and greenery with my takeaway, said no one ever."

"Can't believe I've just heard u call chips French fries. Now that's criminal," a second added.

A third wrote: "It's laughable that Americans have the audacity to mock British food, do they know what's in their food?"

It's not just the food that's been causing drama though, Americans have also taken issue with how a Chinese takeaway is referred to as "a Chinese" in the UK.

Reacting to several videos of British TikTokers plating up their orders, Soogia — an American TikToker — questioned the phrase.

She said: "I know it’s not intended to be racist but it just feels like it is a little bit. I find it so strange that they all call it 'a Chinese'.

"Here in the United States, we call it 'Chinese food' like we do all other foods, like I’m gonna go for Greek food or Mexican food or Italian food. Do British people also say 'I’m going out for a Greek' or is it exclusively just when they talk about Chinese food? I find that so odd."

Lauren Griffiths, one of the popular British TikTokers Soogia reacted to, addressed the controversy in a video to "clear things up".

She explained: “Over the last two days, my account has been flooded with Americans confused as to why we cause a Chinese takeaway 'a Chinese' saying it sounds like we’re talking about a person.

"I want to clear it up because we are a lazy nation – it’s literally just us removing the word takeaway off the end. We’d do it for all cuisines. It’s genuinely not meant offensively in any way, shape or form. I’m really sorry if it comes across that way."

She revealed the drama has left her comments flooded with hate, adding: "I just wanted to do the video because over the past 24 hours it’s gone to a different level, my page is being overwhelmed with horrible comments, my videos have been used and mimicked.

"My page is a really positive place and it’s literally all changed in the last 24 hours.

“I understand being curious, but when it gets personal I’m not meaning to be offensive and that’s where it needs to stop. You can easily click not interested or block me and then you won’t be seeing my videos.”
