‘World’s most expensive burger’ comes with champagne bun and costs £4k

Everyone likes to treat themselves to a nice burger now and again, but would you be willing to pay thousands for one?

Well now you can as the world's most expensive burger has been revealed.

The Golden Boy' burger has been created by Dutch chef Robbert Jan de Veen, who known on Instagram as the King of Hamburgers.

And the burger, which is a new world record, will set you back an eye-watering €5,000 (£4,200).

Taking about the food creation, chef de Veen told Euro News: "Breaking a world record has been a childhood dream of mine and it feels amazing."

The current Guinness World Record is held by a burger from Juicys Outlaw Grill in Oregon, USA, which weighed more than 350kg and cost $5,000 (£3,600).

But chef de Veen looks set to beat this.

His burger is far smaller that the current world record holding, however the ingredients will leave jaws dropped.

The burger features Beluga caviar, king crab, Spanish Iberico ham and white truffle, which sit on top of a Wagyu beef patty.

It also comes with BBQ sauce made with Kopi Luwak coffee that costs between $30 (£22) and $100 (£72) a cup, as well as Macallan single malt whiskey.

Meanwhile, the bun is a Dom Pérignon champagne bun, topped with gold leaf.

Creator de Veen says: "Even though this burger is extremely costly, you should still use your hands because that's the only way to eat a burger.

"Since the bun is covered in gold leaf, your fingers will be golden by the time you finish."

The chef has not only created this for bragging rights, he's also introduced it after many restaurants have suffered throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Veen told The National: "Restaurants were closed and there were no food competitions due to the pandemic.

"I was depressed. I was feeling bad seeing the sufferings of the masses and the dismal situation of the restaurant industry.

"Therefore, I decided to create the world's most expensive burger and donate the entire income to charity to do good."

He added: "It's been a difficult year with Covid, but good times are ahead for the entire hospitality industry and this is a great start."

Rober Willemse, chairman of the Royal Dutch Food and Beverage Association was the first and so far the only person to have tried the burger.

If you too fancy splashing out £4,000 on a burger, de Veen said: "I am all set to go…I will prepare it as soon as I get the second potential buyer."

The news comes after the Britain's most expensive fry-ups were revealed back in June.

This included scrambled eggs which will set you back £75 and a coffee which is a whopping £12.
