Woman breaks ‘cancer-free bell’ after completing radiation

A Texas woman who completed radiation treatment for breast cancer was so excited to ring the “cancer-free bell” at her hospital — she accidentally broke it.

Video posted by Harris Health System in Houston Monday shows Darla Jaye beaming as she rings the bell — until the clapper breaks off and goes flying.

“I broke the bell!” Jaye laughs, as she tries to reattach the contraption.

Jaye was diagnosed with breast cancer in February and began radiation at the end of May, Fox 26 reported.

“I never imagined that I would make it through those 30 treatments and be able to ring that bell,” she told the outlet.

“I was so excited and then I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I broke equipment!’”

One out of every eight women in America will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society.

“When you hear the words: ‘You have cancer,’ the first thing you think of is: ‘Am I going to die?’” Jaye said.

“So … when I rang that bell, I was celebrating that I was alive and that I was essentially done for now.”
