TL; DR:

  • Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis made their carriage debut at Trooping the Colour on June 2, 2022.
  • The royal children were joined by Camilla Parker Bowles and their mother, Kate Middleton.
  • Their father, Prince William, had official duties during the parade which meant he couldn’t join them in the carriage.
  • The family reunited on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

A first for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children made their carriage debut at the 2022 Trooping the Colour parade. The royal kids waved during the parade. With them were the Duchess of Cambridge and Camilla Parker Bowles. But where was their dad, the Duke of Cambridge? William had to be somewhere else during the parade.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis made their Trooping the Colour carriage debut

Platinum Jubilee weekend festivities have begun. Crowds lined the streets of London, England, to catch a glimpse of the royal family during the annual Trooping the Colour parade on June 2, 2022.

This year, with Queen Elizabeth II celebrating 70 years on the throne, William and Kate’s children had a new place in the parade. 8-year-old George, 7-year-old Charlotte, and 4-year-old Louis got to experience their first Trooping the Colour carriage ride.

They smiled and waved to crowds alongside Kate and Camilla. Previously, the littlest royals haven’t participated in the parade itself. Instead, they’ve joined the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Queen Elizabeth, and other royals on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

However, with them getting older George, Charlotte, and Louis are getting more involved in Queen Elizabeth’s annual birthday parade.

Prince William had official duties during the parade

So where was William while George, Charlotte, and Louis made their Trooping the Colour carriage debut? According to Newsweek, the Duke of Cambridge, who is second in the line of succession behind Prince Charles, had “formal duties.”

Therefore, he wasn’t sitting with Kate and their kids in the carriage. The Duke of Cambridge, who was reportedly seen rehearsing for Trooping the Colour in the days leading up to the parade, spent a portion of it on horseback in uniform.

He, along with his father, Charles, and aunt, Princess Anne, received a salute as Queen Elizabeth geared up to take in the festivities from the Buckingham Palace balcony.

William didn’t spend the entire Trooping the Colour parade away from Kate, George, Charlotte, and Louis. The Cambridge family reunited on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for a flyover.

Just like years past, William and Kate were joined by their kids for the second half of the parade. And, similar to their previous Trooping the Colour appearances, George, Charlotte, and Louis made for some humorous moments. Louis, the youngest of the Cambridge children, stole the show with his varying facial expressions.

The carriage debut of George, Charlotte, and Louis at Trooping the Colour will likely be followed by more appearances during Platinum Jubilee weekend. Although the royal kids’ attendance isn’t confirmed at every event honoring their great grandmother, a big royal turnout is expected for the historic celebration.
