What Halloween costumes incorporate face coverings?

10/31/2020

Halloween is just around the corner, and children nationwide are preparing their costumes for a night of trick or treating – which will look a lot different under the three-tier lockdown.

Although the UK government has not confirmed whether or not Halloween masks, which are typically made of silicone or hard plastic, are safe alternatives to fabric face coverings, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has spoken out against them.

The CDC website reads: ‘Do not use a costume mask (such as for Halloween) as a substitute for a cloth mask unless it is made of two or more layers of breathable fabric that covers your mouth and nose and doesn’t leave gaps around your face.’

So, we have compiled a list of costumes that incorporate a face covering, so you can safely spook people out in style.

What Halloween costumes incorporate face coverings?

The following costumes can have a face covering easily adapted into the look.

You won’t have any trouble maintaining social distancing – you’ll look so scary, all the other guisers will want to stay away.

Ninja

One costume idea that both looks cool and keeps you safe is a Ninja.

All you need is a plain black face mask paired with a black t-shirt, black trousers, and a tie around your forehead.

Doctor

Pay respect to the brave NHS nurses and doctors by donning a classic blue disposable face mask and some scrubs.

Alternatively, drench yourself in fake blood (red food colouring and corn syrup – works every time) and be the surgeon from hell.

Mortal Kombat

Why not dress up as your favourite Mortal Kombat characters, who have been sporting face masks since 1992.

Some classic Mortal Kombat characters that wear face masks are Scorpion, Reptile, Subzero, and Kitana.

World War II pilot

Another straightforward costume idea is a World War II pilot.

A brown face mask, brown cap, goggles, and a leather jacket complete the look.

Skeleton

Every year, people love to paint half of their face as a Skeleton. Why not purchase a face mask that does the job for you?

Although, nothing could be Macaulay Culkin’s face mask.
