A shocking new parenting trend has seen several social media users beating up their children’s stuffed animals in order to convince them to eat their food.

The bizarre trend involves parents pretending to feed the child’s stuffed animal, before beating the toy in order to make it look like it is being punished for failing to eat its food. The goal appears to be instilling fear in the child. 

And since people began sharing videos of the disturbing trend, it has left many parents and social media users horrified, as they deem it ‘disgusting’, ‘violent’ and ‘traumatic’.

Yikes: Twitter user Wild Cherry demonstrated the trend in a video he shared to the social media platform that shows his nephew (pictured) refusing to eat his food 


Disturbing: The man is seen pretending to feed the boy’s stuffed animal, and shaking the toy’s head to gesture that he has refused the food. Next, the man begins beating the toy 

Scared: The innocent little boy appears nervous and stressed as he watches his uncle repeatedly beat the toy 

Negative: The Twitter user captioned the now viral video, saying: ‘When kids don’t wanna eat… this is what you gotta do’ 

Twitter user Wild Cherry demonstrated the trend in a video he shared to the social media platform on Wednesday, June 19.

Result: He then picks up the spoonful of food once again and holds it in front of the toddler’s mouth. This time, the toddler accepts the food 

In the clip, which has since gone viral, the man is first seen trying to feed his nephew, who shakes his head at the food. 

The man then picks up one of the child’s stuffed animals, and proceeds to pretend to feed the toy. 

He holds the spoonful of food up to the toy’s mouth, before shaking the toy from side to side to try and show the child that the toy is refusing the food. 

Next, the Twitter user placed the food back into the bowl, and began beating the toy with his fist. He is seen aggressively bashing the toy repeatedly, as the innocent child looks on.   

After a few moments, the man picks up the spoonful of food once again and holds it in front of the toddler’s mouth. This time, the toddler accepts the food. 

The man captured the video, saying: ‘When kids don’t wanna eat… this is what you gotta do #I’mDead.’ 

Since the clip was shared online, it has accumulated over 6,000 comments from different users who have branded the technique ‘disgusting’, ‘violent’ and ‘traumatic’.

One man said: ‘This exact behavior has been proven scientifically to increase aggression in young people. We talk all the time about perpetuating a culture of violence with young people landing in jail. This is where it starts.’

Another Twitter user said: ‘This is horrible. Threat of violence and children’s trauma is a real thing.’

‘Stuffed animals to a child are like their actual real life friends,’ a third user said. 

Frightened: After watching the woman beat the toy, the little boy appears frightened as he agrees to eat some food 

‘What this man is doing to this child is mental torture. Maybe he should try, idk, parenting? Talking to the kid? Helping him understand why he needs food? Just a thought,’ another user added. 

Another viral video showed a woman demonstrating the technique on a child. 

The video, which was shared to Facebook on Tuesday, May 28, begins as the woman tries to feed a young boy some food.

However, when the child refuses the food, she grabs a stuffed animal, and pretends to try to feed the toy. 

She then uses her hand to shake the toy from side to side, gesturing that the toy is also refusing the food.

The woman then begins bashing and slapping the toy repeatedly, as well as slamming it down on the kitchen counter-top. 

Next, she gives the food to the child once again, and this time the child accepts the food, leaving the woman in hysterics.

Meanwhile, a man is heard saying ‘it worked’, in the background of the video.

Positive approach: Christopher captioned the video, saying: ‘Hey dumb f***ers using stuffed animals to exhibit negative reinforcement to get your kids to do something, watch this…’

The video shows the man using a calm, positive technique to successfully get his son to eat some food.

He captioned the clip, which has since gone viral, saying: ‘Hey dumb f***ers using stuffed animals to exhibit negative reinforcement to get your kids to do something, watch this…’

The video begins with the man asking his son if he wants to try some food, which the little boy refuses. 

Next, the man is seen pretending to give a stuffed penguin toy some food, and saying: ‘Penguin wants some.’

The man makes noises to gesture that the penguin has eaten the food. ‘Oh, that’s yummy,’ he adds, as he pretends to be the voice of the stuffed animal.

The little boy is seen staring at the toy, before agreeing to take a bite of the food. 

Since the video was shared, it has accumulated over 300 comments, as hundreds of users have praised the father’s positive technique.

‘Wow it’s amazing what an extra 5 minutes of clam, patient, positive reinforcement can do! And look, your kid isn’t terrified and he doesn’t hate you!’ one user said. 

Another added: ‘Now this is parenting I can get behind. I was big mad when I saw the dude getting his child to eat out of fear of being hurt like his stuffed animal. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT!’
