US woman mortified after realising ‘true’ meaning of British a**** phrase

An American woman was left red-faced when she just realised she's been making a mistake using a British slang.

Stevie Boebi explained to viewers on TikTok that she's heard of the phrase – "can't be arsed" – a lot and she only found out the true meaning of it recently.

"So you know when British people say 'I can't be arsed', I thought the whole time that they were saying 'I can't be asked'," she said.

"Like 'Don't ask me to do that' or 'don't ask me about it', or like 'I'm over it'.

"But they are actually saying 'I can't be arsed' – arse – as in bum, so it's like a curse word?!

"I've been saying it in professional emails."

And to Stevie's surprise, many viewers also have the same thought as her, with one sharing: "I am British and I thought this too, until I got told off when I was younger for 'swearing' because it's supposed to be arsed, not asked."

A second wrote: "Now I'm questioning myself did I mean asked or arsed…?"

"Oh they're not? I've been saying I can't be asked too!" a third added.

Others explained in the comments that the phrase simply means "can't be bothered" and added: "Either way it's not good to use in professional emails."

"I'm mortified," Stevie responded.

Another TikToker was also "today years old" when she found out she's been saying the phrase "butt naked" wrong.

"No one has ever corrected me – buck naked," Jasmine said. "When someone is fully nude, they are buck naked.

"I thought they were butt naked, like down to the butt, they are naked.

"I honestly stand by this one, I think this one makes more sense."

She also mistook "a dog-eat-dog world" as a "doggy dog world".
