What’s your go-to when it comes to spicing things up, sex-wise?

Perhaps you change up the location, or get some restraints involved.

If you’re looking for some fresh inspiration, having a read of the most common sexual kinks could be a good place to start.

Handy, then, that the team at IllicitEncounters has surveyed 2,000 people to find out men and women’s top kinks.

Interestingly, there’s a bit of a divide between men and women’s preferred sex acts.

The women surveyed gave al fresco sex – think sex on the beach, in the woods, under the stars – as their favourite way to add some excitement to the mix, while top place on the men’s list is making DIY porn.

Also surprising: despite these kinks all being common, quite a few of the people surveyed said they keep their kink-related fantasies a secret from their partners – 32% of men and 31% of women.

That’s despite the majority – 74% of men and 67% of women – saying they have a kinky side.

Now, as IllicitEncounters is a site for having affairs, their team has spun these stats as a reason to stray outside your relationship.

Their relationship expert Jessica Leoni said: ‘A lot of people start an affair because their regular partner will not indulge their kinky side.

‘The beauty of online dating is that you can be upfront with people and let them know in advance that you would like to kink it up if you get together.

‘The issue lots of people in long-term relationships have is that their kinky side develops over time and they find that they eventually have different sexual needs that their regular partner can never satisfy.’

But please bear in mind: of course a dating site that benefits from people having affairs would suggest an affair is the answer to any sexual issues.

Our advice? Try some open, honest communication with your partner around sex-related things you’d like to try.

Keep it light, have fun, and feel out what does the trick for both of you.

You might find that something you’ve long fantasised about isn’t that great IRL, or, on the flipside, you might dip your toe into a partner’s kink and find you absolutely love it. That’s part of the fun.

Experiment, venture outside your comfort zone, and don’t push forward if something is uncomfortable or not pleasurable.

But don’t feel as though your sexual preferences are so shameful that your only option is to cheat on a partner – if they’re the right person for you, they’ll at least hear you out without making you feel judged.
