The UK’s top ten favourite sex positions revealed – including the ‘pretzel’ and the ‘lotus’

OnBuy.com, a shopping deals website, has released a survey showing the UK’s most searched sex positions… and it’s very interesting stuff!

The company completed the search by inputting over 60 sex positions into an analytics platform to identify the ten most and least searched for sex positions in the UK, and you may not even know what a couple of them are.

Coming in at first place, with an average monthly search of over 150,000 is the eagle which, for those who don’t know, involves one partner lying on their back with their legs spread apart, or spread-eagle, if you will.

Coming in at second place was the 69 position, bringing in over 11,000 monthly searches and in third place with slightly less is the classic, missionary.

Working down the list, cowgirl is in fourth place, reverse cowgirl is in fifth, standing is in sixth place and lotus in seventh.

Some of the lesser searched positions include spooning at just shy of 2,000 monthly searches, doggy style at 1,220 searches and pretzel at just over 600.

But what is the lotus? And the pretzel?

Well, according to Bustle, “the lotus position is perfect for promoting intimacy, connection and warmth.”

They explain: “In a heterosexual partnership, this position is when the man sits down with his legs crossed and the woman straddles him, wrapping her legs around his waist.”

Moving onto the pretzel, this position looks a little harder than most and involves, according to dating website, All Sweetness and Life, “the woman lying on her side and the man kneeling with his knees either side of the woman’s outstretched leg.”

They continue: “The other leg is then hitched onto the man’ shoulder or wrapped around the man’s waist.”

Lotuses and pretzels to one side, other popular sex positions which made a dent in search history include those referenced on hit ITV show Love Island.

The Butter Churner position rakes in around 400 searches per month, and the anvil brings in an average of 280.

During the Spill The Tea challenge, Shaugna Phillips read out a fact which she then had to match to one of the boys.

The fact read: “This boy’s favourite sex position is the Butter Churner.”

And the answer revealed it was the guy who she coupled up with, Callum, who then gave a brief demonstration, which left islanders and viewers tickled.

According to Kinkly, the Butter Churner is an “advanced sex position” where the woman lies on her back with her legs raised towards her face and the man then squats and penetrates her from above and thrusts in a similar fashion to an old-fashioned butter churner.
