Earlier this month the Office of National Statistics released data which revealed the most popular baby names of 2019, with Olivia and Olivier taking the top spots.

But what is popular with one generation can swiftly change, as trends ebb and flow. For example old-fashioned names such Ivy, Ava, and Alfred had lost popularity by the time Generation X came to name their kids, but have since fallen back into favour.

But as these names have increased in fashionability others have dropped right down the list, and now are at risk of extinction.
