'The Bachelorette': Why Luke P.'s Behavior is Dangerous
06/24/2019Luke Parker is the villain that keeps on giving. Except, we are ready for it to stop. Since night one of The Bachelorette, Parker has taken over the show and made everything about him.
He has gotten into arguments with so many of the other guys that we have lost count. Even host Chris Harrison has noticed the amount of screen time that Parker has received.
“We’ve never had a season where a villain — if you want to call Luke that — has such a prominent role, where they really dominate the landscape and storyline for so long,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “Hannah likes Luke P., and the more he gets beat on and she gets beat on, the more defensive and angry she gets.”
And it actually takes away from Hannah Brown’s journey to find love.
“When she walks in [to the room with guys] in Scotland, she felt like the mom of these children who are just bickering,” he continued. She feels like they’re not diving into her, and it’s really driving her nuts.”
Parker’s possessiveness
Not only is Parker’s behavior annoying to watch, it’s actually quite toxic. He acts like Brown is something that he owns rather than a person who he is trying to fall in love with.
Early on in the season, he tried to police Brown’s time and interrupted her on multiple occasions while she talked to other men. Doing this completely ignored what Brown wanted, but wasn’t too huge of a red flag because interrupting conversations is par for the course in the Bachelor franchise.
But as time has gone on, Parker has become more and more possessive.
In a preview for next week, Parker gets particularly upset after learning that Brown went on a naked bungee jumping date with fellow contestant, Garrett Powell.
“That’s like a slap in the face from her and from Garrett,” he says in the clip after finding out about the date. “I want to make sure that she’s not sleeping around. I don’t think she would ever do that, but I’ve got to make sure.”
Instead of keeping his feelings to himself, he confronts Brown about her sexuality.
“So let’s talk about sex and how the marriage bed should be kept pure,” he says. “And let’s say you have had sex with one or multiple of these guys. I would be wanting to go home.”
Luckily, Brown does shut him down.
“I don’t owe you anything,” she tells him. “My husband would never say what you’ve said to me.”
“I have had sex, and honestly, Jesus still loves me.”
Why is Parker’s behavior dangerous?
Anytime someone treats their significant other like a possession more than a person, it’s cause for alarm. Parker knew what he was getting himself into when he went on The Bachelorette. He knew that there would be other men spending time with Brown and competing for her attention, as well. So, for him to be angry that she is spending time with other men is completely irrational and a bit delusional.
In addition to not being rooted in reality, Parker has shown that he can also get aggressive, which is a horrible combination.
Hopefully, Brown can see the red flags and will send Parker home.
