Shannen Doherty: I still have ‘a lot of life’ in me amid Stage 4 cancer battle

Shannen Doherty wants women to start getting real.

The “Beverly Hills, 90210” star, 50, used a no-makeup, filter-free Instagram selfie on Sunday to make a stand again toxic beauty standards.

“Watching movies tonight and noticed there were few female characters I could relate to. You know, women without fillers, without Botox, without a facelift. Women who embraced their face and all the experience it showed,” Doherty began.

“I have lived,” she continued.” “I love that I’ve lived and that my face reflects my life. I survived a lot; yes, cancer but more than that. I embrace me now. Finally.”

The actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015, and after a two-year battle announced she was in remission. But in February 2020, Doherty revealed that her cancer had returned and that it had progressed to Stage 4.

The “Charmed” star concluded her post by calling for more relatable, realistic role models in the media: “Done with the perception magazines and Hollywood try to make us in to,” she wrote. “I want to see women like me. Women like us.”

Doherty’s famous friends clearly agreed with her sentiment. “Thank you. We need more of you,” commented Paulina Porizkova, who recently spoke with Page Six Style about her own unfiltered content and the entertainment industry’s ageism problem.

Added Selma Blair, “Just thinking [it was] time I fixed my face. Hahahah. I got the same adult face as you … Love you beautiful.”

Doherty’s former “90210” co-star Jennie Garth dropped a fire emoji, while Sarah Michelle Gellar — with whom Doherty has been close since their days on The WB — added a string of applauding emojis.
