Sarah Ferguson Talks About Getting Plastic Surgery: ‘I Really Don’t Like the Frozen Look'

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Ferguson spoke openly about having plastic surgery procedures done when it’s still a topic people — namely celebrities — are hesitant to discuss. Sarah Ferguson used to get Botox
The royal who has two children — Princess Beatrice of York, 31, and Princess Eugenie of York, 29 — with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, Duke of York (Ferguson’s said in the past she and Prince Andrew have a relationship “bigger than friends”) explained to the publication that she used to get Botox, the toxin that’s injected into the face to relax muscles thereby reducing wrinkles and fine lines.
“I had Botox a long time ago when there was nothing else available,” she before adding, “I really don’t like the frozen look. I’m so animated and I like to be myself. I don’t like the thought of needles and am very glad if I look well and happy.”
Now Ferguson turns to lasers wielded by Dr. Gabriela Mercik, whom she met in 1992 — before her divorce from Prince Andrew — when Mercik was still a medical student. They crossed paths when the royal visited Poland to meet young people with cancer. Mercik was helping with treatment.
Since then, Mercik has moved to aesthetic medicine and opened her own clinic, first in Ireland, and now has a location in London.
These days, Botox is “passé,” Mercik said. Instead, she uses lasers and other forms of treatment to achieve the same result for patients, including the Duchess of York.
Sarah Ferguson had laser treatment before Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding
Ahead of Princess Eugenie’s Oct. 2018 wedding to Jack Brooksbank, Ferguson opted for a laser treatment from Dr. Mercik known as a 6-Dimension Ultimate Laser Treatment facelift or “ultimate laser facelift” for short.
The facelift is said to be painless and noninvasive with zero recovery time. Perfect for someone like Ferguson who said she doesn’t “sit down for long.”
While Ferguson admitted she had a facelift ahead of her daughter’s wedding, she said the glow she had was from her.
“The happiness was shining out of me because my daughter was getting married. I was so glad. I love Jack. When I’m passionate about anything, my eyes shine,” she said before adding, “Above all, it was being joyful for Eugenie that made me look good. But I’d had some laser treatment on my face which helped, too.”
Other treatments the Duchess of York’s tried include mesotherapy — an injection of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals to plump the skin — and organic fillers, which she first used in 2013. The royal’s been very honest about the things she tried and doesn’t hesitate to try new procedures.
“I’ve been her guinea pig with new treatments, too. I’m really happy to be open about what I’ve had done,” the Duchess of York said.
In 2014, Dr. Mercik suggested she try a thread lift, a procedure Ferguson compared to gardening.
“It’s like garden trellising for [sic] sweet peas,” she said. “You insert the threads under the skin with a fine needle and they hold everything up.”
She admitted to being nervous before trying a thread lift for the first time.
“Before I had it done I thought, ‘Oh this is going to be painful,’ but it wasn’t bad. My skin responded well. I think if you look at photos of me after I had it done, I look much better,” Ferguson said.
