Sainsbury's Easter opening hours 2020: Bank holiday opening times and home delivery advice

04/09/2020

SAINSBURY’S will be closing most stores, but not all, on Easter Sunday.

That means shoppers will need to plan their next visit carefully so they don’t waste a journey.

Sainsbury’s stores will be open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

The supermarket has recently changed its operating hours to give staff more chance to restock shelves in light of the coronavirus crisis.

Its core hours are now 8am until 8pm for larger shops, although smaller convenience stores are usually open longer.

The supermarket has also introduced dedicated hours for NHS staff and vulnerable shoppers in its bigger shops.

NHS staff will have priority Monday to Saturday from 7.30am to 8am, while elderly customers, carers and disabled customers have a dedicated shopping hour from 8am to 9am Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

These dedicated shopping times will be in place over the weekend.

When is Sainsbury's open over the Easter weekend?

It's worth remembering that Brits are being asked to only visit supermarkets when they absolutely need to.

If you're self-isolating and can't leave your home, you can try and get your shopping delivered or ask a friend or family member to shop for you.

As opening times may vary slightly, we recommend checking when your nearest shop will open by using the online finder tool.

Sainsbury's has over 2,300 shops in the UK.

Good Friday: Larger Sainsbury's supermarkets are typically open 8am to 8pm on Fridays, and these hours are expected to be the same for Good Friday.

Some smaller convenience stores have Friday hours of 7am to 10pm.

Again, these hours are expected to be the same for Good Friday.

Easter Saturday: Saturday hours are also usually 8am to 8pm for larger shops, or 7am to 10pm for smaller branches, on Saturdays.

Sainsbury's are expected to open under these normal hours on Easter Saturday.

Easter Sunday: Most Sainsbury's stores will be shut on Easter Sunday so staff can have a well-deserved rest.

However, some will remain open under reduced hours – check the Sainsbury's online finder tool to see if your nearest shop will be open.

We've asked Sainsbury's if they can tell us roughly how many stores will remain open and we'll update this article when we know more.

Easter Monday: Shops will open again on Easter Monday, under usual hours.

This is usually 8am to 8pm for larger supermarkets, or 7am to 10pm for small convenience shops.

Is Sainsbury's delivering over the Easter weekend?

Sadly, as supermarket delivery slots have been selling out weeks in advance, it's unlikely you'll get one in time for Easter.

The Sun couldn't find one when we checked this afternoon using one London postcode.

Sainsbury’s recently vowed to offer 150,000 extra priority delivery slots to elderly and vulnerable customers who are unable to leave the house.
