Royal Fans Accuse Meghan Markle of Copying Princess Diana Too Much

11/12/2019

Everything Meghan Markle says and does these days is dissected by royal fans all over the globe and now the former Suits star is being called out for what she wore to the Remembrance Sunday ceremony.

Here’s why fans have a problem with the Duchess of Sussex‘s attire and are comparing it to what Princess Diana wore to the same event years earlier. Plus, find out why famed designer Stella McCartney is facing criticism as well.

Fans are calling Markle out for copying Diana

On Nov. 10, 2019, the royal family attended the annual Remembrance Day Service at The Cenotaph in London. For the event, Markle donned a wide-brimmed black hat and a belted black coat but social media users were quick to point out that her outfit resembled one wore previously by another royal.

While a number of fans praised the former actress’ look, others accused her of copying the late Princess Diana too much.

“Meghan really needs to stop trying to dress like Diana. 2 different body types, completely different outcomes,” one person tweeted.

“Again. Ugh. So tiring. Just be your own person. Stop trying to pretend to be someone you’re not,” someone else wrote.

“Calculating.. she is trying to manipulate the public..trying to channel Diana,” another said.

However, other social media users pointed out the Markle’s sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, has worn outfits similar to those Diana wore many times and no one said anything negative about it.

“Let me get this straight: if Meghan takes inspiration from Princess Diana she’s ‘obsessed’ and ‘creepy,’ but if Catherine does it she’s praised? the double standard is real,” someone noted.

“Kate does it all the time, that ok right? Only creepy for Meghan? Get over it, they both look beautiful,” another fan said.

But Markle wasn’t the only person attacked while this outfit was being debated, Stella McCartney dealt with the wrath of social media as well.

Why Stella McCartney was criticized

After Markle appeared on the balcony, McCartney took to social media saying that she was “honored” that the duchess wore one of her designs for the Remembrance Sunday Service. However, some Instagram users slammed McCartney for plugging her fashion line at that specific time.

“So honoured to have HRH Duchess of Sussex in our Autumn ‘19 coat at Remembrance Day service.⁣ x Stella⁣ #RemembranceDay,” the designer wrote alongside a photo of Markle at the ceremony.

The backlash was almost immediate as McCartney’s followers asked that she take the post down and even threatened to Boycott her brand.

“Remembrance Day is to honour those that fought for us not to use for advertising purposes. Pretty shocked,” one person wrote. one person wrote.

“Using Remembrance Day to advertise your clothes is a little disrespectful! People died and you take pictures of people showing respect for advertising purposes. Just wrong,” another commented.

“Nice — but not really a time to be advertising your clothes Stella!!” a third person said.

Following the backlash, McCartney’s post was deleted.
