Rob Lowe: My ‘stupid Christmas elephant movie’ eclipsed ‘Irishman’

Marvel actors aren’t the only ones taking potshots at Martin Scorsese. Rob Lowe recently made the bombastic claim that his shmaltzy safari-set rom-com, “Holiday in the Wild,” surpassed “The Irishman” in terms of Netflix viewership.

The 55-year-old Brat Pack alum delivered the unexpected barb to reporters at the Television Critics Association in Pasadena, Calif., Monday while promoting his new Fox show “9-1-1: Lone Star,” reports People.

“I just did a movie for Netflix that was the No. 1 movie that they had,” said Lowe upon being asked if he preferred working for streaming services or network TV. “It was a stupid Christmas elephant movie. Take that, Martin Scorsese.”

It’s a bold assertion, considering that “The Irishman” racked up 13.2 million viewers in its first five days, even eclipsing “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie,” reports The Wrap. “They were like, ‘Don’t tell anybody,’” mused Lowe in the interview, cheekily indicating that he might have inside info on the subject — although that’s highly unlikely considering how closely guarded Netflix keeps their viewership numbers.

The Post reached out to the streaming service, but they declined to comment.

Currently, “Holiday in the Wild” — which looks to be a modern-day “Mogambo” of sorts — holds a putrid 43% on RottenTomatoes.com, compared to the 96% rating garnered by Scorsese’s nearly 4-hour gangster epic.

Lowe isn’t the first to take a rhetorical baseball bat to “The Irishman.” The Post’s own Andrea Peyser skewered the mafia flick for being “ill-acted, poorly written and amateurishly directed, with CGI effects so demented, big-mouth De Niro, who is 76, looks 90 rather than the intended blue-eyed 35.”
