Professional nitpicker shows how she banishes extreme head lice infestation

A professional nitpicker has shared a video of how she wiped out a stomach-churning head lice infestation with a comb.

The critters had made their home in the hair of a little girl who had been poorly, leaving her and her family unable to tackle the parasitic creepy crawlies themselves.

Luckily, TikTok user Sherrii @nitpickerperth was on hand to banish the blood-sucking bugs nine weeks into the infestation.

In the clip, which was uploaded on May 4, she says: "Mum found lice in February, booked into the clinic, came for the first visit."

The nitpicker zooms in on the hair and white eggs are clinging to individual follicles while adult lice scamper around on the girl’s scalp.

It looks like there are a few scabs on the scalp from scratching or lice bites.

Unfortunately, Sherrii says the mum then got very sick and couldn’t attend the follow-up treatment.

There were then more family emergencies, including surgery and a broken ankle.

Eventually, the little girl had her follow-up treatment nine weeks later, which is why the infestation is so extreme.

Sherrii shows the comb gliding through the wet hair, picking up the eggs and live headlice.

"I can't wait to finish this one!" she wrote in the on-screen caption.

The footage has been watched more than 1.5 million times on the video-sharing app and thousands of people have commented, with many saying a comb is the best method.

One user said: "I did this for my little sister’s friend. No-one wanted to help her so I did! She was happy afterward, took me five hours!"

Another commented: "Oh wow it’s hard when the young ones get it. When my daughter had some I was checking her hair every day.

"She hated it but she doesn’t have them now."

A third viewer suggested: "Shave the hair off and start again omg."

Someone else confessed: "I find it really relaxing doing my kids' hair. They rarely get them but I get excited when I do."

The NHS advises wet combing at home to treat head lice and doing the whole family at the same time – even if they don't have symptoms.

It says: "Do wet combing on days 1, 5, 9 and 13 to catch any newly hatched head lice.

"Check again that everyone's hair is free of lice on day 17."
