Prince William Was 'Betrayed' After Revealing His True Feelings About Becoming King

Plenty of critics find faultwith secrecy in the royal family. They accuse royals of being too cold, toostandoffish, and too private. But the one thing these haters don’t realize is howrisky it is opening up about their true feelings, like when Prince William toldone confidante how he felt and then got stabbed in the back for it.

There’s really no winning for royal family members. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently shared their most intimate feelings about being pursued by the press, and now most people are accusing them of being ungrateful. It’s no wonder the royals usually remain tight-lipped about private matters.

Prince William once told the British prime minister exactly how he felt about becoming king, but in the end, he regretted being so honest about it.

Prince William had an honest conversation with Tony Blair

The incident took place years ago when Prince William wasstill figuring out exactly what it meant to fulfill his destiny. Though he’sknown for some time that he’s goingto become king one day, his mother Princess Diana made sure to give theDuke of Cambridge as close to a normal life as possible.

Tony Blair recalled a conversation he had with Prince William in his 2010 autobiography, A Journey. The prime minister was discussing Prince William’s “sense of duty” and reservations about his future place in the monarchy. William was also still bitter about how intrusive the press was following the death of his mother.

“He knew, rationally, why the week between Diana’s death and the funeral had to be as it had been. But he felt acutely the conflict between public position and private emotion,” Blair revealed in his book.

He probably expected the conversation to remain private

Though Prince William might not have expressly told Tony Blair to keep the conversation on the down low, there’s little chance that the Duke of Cambridge expected his heartbreaking words to be published in a book. Otherwise, he most likely never would have said them.

And rumor has it that Prince William was “livid” when thebook was released.  “William would have thought that any conversation witha Prime Minister would be confidential,” a palace aide explained at the time. 

Prince William has learned to be more careful with his words

It’s been almost a decade since Tony Blair published his autobiographyand allegedly betrayed Prince William’s trust. Over that time, the Duke ofCambridge has learned to be more careful with what he reveals and who hetrusts.

With most royal scandals, Prince William employs a tactic that’soften used in the royal family for scandal. He says nothing at all.

When rumors were circulating earlier this year that PrinceWilliam had engaged in anextramarital affair with someone from his social circle, the Duke andDuchess of Cambridge both refused to dignify the allegations with a response. Instead,these two remained completely silent on the issue until the public moved on.

It’s clear Prince William has all the makings of anexcellent future monarch. Including learning the hard way that almost no conversationswill ever stay private.
