Prince William reads 'Room With A Broom' to his children

A royal bedtime story! Prince William reveals his he reads to his children ‘all the time’ – and says Julia Donaldson’s Room on the Broom is a favourite

The Duke of Cambridge revealed he reads his children bedtime stories as he spoke to fellow parents yesterday. 

Prince William, 37, said he reads to Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one, ‘all the time’ – and said a particular favourite is Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. 

The illustrated book tells the story of a witch who invites animals to travel with her on her broom. It was published in 2002 and adapted into a TV film in 2012.

Prince William made the comments as he joined the Duchess of Cambridge, 38, on a visit to an ice cream parlour in Mumbles, South Wales, yesterday.  

‘I read this to our children all the time,’ the father-of-three said, after a spotting a child with Room on the Broom. 

He said he had met the Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo and Stick Man, when she received her CBE for services to literature. 

‘I said, “do you realise how many parents you have saved at bed time?”. David Walliams also does good books for children – for a little bit older children I think. I’ve read one and it was really, really good.’

Speaking to the author in 2018, William revealed The Gruffalo had been a ‘big hit’ with his children.  

Yesterday William and Kate, 38, met with families on a visit to South Wales. 

The couple carried out a number of engagements, including a stop at a local lifeboat station and ice cream tasting at a seafront parlour. 

Later they visited Port Talbort Steelworks before finishing off the day at a boxing gym which helps children who have overcome adversity or are facing mental health issues.
