Prince William and Prince Harry Have Not Forgotten What Donald Trump Said About Princess Diana
05/31/2019When Princess Diana passed, more than 20 years ago, the current president of the United States, Donald Trump, made some rather unsavory comments about her.
With Trump set to visit Buckingham Palace on June 3, some are concerned with how her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, will feel about welcoming him into their country.
The princes are well aware of the way Trump treated their mother, and although they are not allowed to comment on politics, it’s commonly believed they are not fans of the president. What exactly did Trump say, and what can we expect from his visit next week?
What Donald Trump said about Princess Diana
Before his presidency, Trump appeared on The Howard Stern Showmultiple times. In fact, between 1993 and 2015, Trump spoke to Stern 39 times on the air. That’s over 15 hours of conversation. Since Diana’s death was in 1997, it’s inevitable that she was brought up a few times, over the years.
Stern asked Trump, shortly after Diana’s death, if he thought he “could have nailed” Diana, to which Trump replied: “I think I could have.” Trump also said: “She had times when she didn’t look great and she had times when she looked better than anyone in the world. But she had supermodel… She had the height, she had this, she had magnificent skin, she was a great beauty.”
Diana was mentioned again on the show in 2000 when Stern asked Trump to list his top ten women. Trump put Diana on the list, which prompted Stern to comment, “I’ll never get this thing with Lady Di.”
“I think she’s magnificent,” Trump said. “Lady Di was truly a woman of great beauty.”
Stern has a reputation for his raunchy interviews, and inappropriate questions, so it’s no surprise that he responded to Trump by asking, “Would you have slept with her?”
“Without even hesitation,” Trump answered, but later added, “She was crazy, but those are minor details.”
Donald Trump tried to date Princess Diana
Apparently, all of Trump’s talk about his attraction to Diana wasn’t just talk. He also tried to get her to go out with him. TV presenter, Selina Scott, told The Sunday Times that Trump “bombarded Diana at Kensington Palace with massive bouquets of flowers, each worth hundreds of pounds.” She also commented: “Trump clearly saw Diana as the ultimate trophy wife.”
Scott goes on to describe how the roses and orchids piled up at Diana’s apartment. She said Diana became concerned about how she should handle the situation. Diana found it creepy and felt that Trump was acting like a stalker.
When Trump spoke to Stern in 1997, he addressed his desire to date Diana. Trump said that if Diana had been dating him, instead of Dodi Fayed, she never would have died in the Paris tunnel because he wouldn’t have allowed it. Trump said: “If you look at this tunnel- and I really know that tunnel well, I’ve been through that tunnel many times- you can’t go more than like 30, 40 miles an hour.” He went on to speculate that Diana’s driver must have been going around 120 miles per hour.
How will Prince William and Prince Harry react to Donald Trump during his visit?
William and Harry are both aware of Trump’s remarks about their mother, according to Best Life. A source explains that William and Harry were disgusted at the time of the comments, and “have not forgotten it.” The royal household is known for its polite manners, so it’s unlikely that there will be a public scene when they meet the president next week.
However, that doesn’t mean that they are required to act like best friends. The princes will most likely give him a polite greeting, fit for any international power figure, but avoid speaking with him any longer than necessary.
Meghan Markle is known to dislike Trump, based on comments she made before she married Harry. However, she’s still on maternity leave, and so she won’t be joining her husband to meet the president. Those hoping for drama will most likely be disappointed. The royal family is aware that any snuff on their part would cause an international scandal. However, we’re sure that the prince’s internal thoughts would be amusing to hear- if only that were possible!
