If nothing else, it appears that the current crisis around the globe has put things in perspective for Prince Harry and Prince William. The royal brothers had been struggling with their different views and perspectives on royal life. As the elder prince has leaned into the traditions of the British royal family as a future Crowned King, the younger prince has decided to forge his own path.

Though there had been whispers of strife between the formally close pair, Prince Harry finally acknowledged what was happening in an October 2019 documentary. “Part of this role, part of this job, this family, being under the pressure which it’s under, inevitably stuff happens,” he stated in ITV’s Harry and Meghan: An African Journey. “But we are brothers. We will always be brothers.”

Though Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussexes’ final royal engagement seemed to be full of tension, Prince Charles’ recent coronavirus (COVID-19) diagnosis may have helped the brothers put their previous issues to the side.

Prince Harry and Prince William barely spoke during the Duke of Sussex’s final royal engagement

Since most of the world watched the brothers grow up side-by-side, they always imagined that they would remain a united force. “Courtiers imagined in the future that Harry would be shoulder-to-shoulder with William when he was King,” Prince Harry: Brother, Soldier, Son author Penny Junor told People. “He would pick up the bits that William wouldn’t be as good for. They would be complimentary and side-by-side throughout their lives. That was a lovely picture. Harry was the secret weapon, really.”

However, amid their previous issues and Megxit, the brothers’ relationship appeared to be more strained than ever. During the Sussexes’ final royal engagement, Commonwealth Day on March 9, the brothers barely spoke.

According to Royal commentator Camilla Tominey, the Daily Telegraph’s lip-reader gave the lowdown on the brothers’ conversation. Prince Harry’s full quote which he is claimed to have said to Meghan was, “He literally said: ‘Hello, Harry’ and that was it and he didn’t say anything more than that.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been trying to ease tensions with the royal family

Though there were obviously some hurt feelings that led the Sussexes to Megxit, they do not want to be estranged from the royals. “Meghan wants Harry to remain close to his family,” a source told Hollywood Life. “There’s no question about that. It’s been a tough time but at the end of the day he still loves his family and that won’t change and hasn’t changed. He has always been close to his grandmother and he very much wants her to have time with Archie, he loves seeing them together. It was sad they couldn’t bring Archie over on their trip but it was the sensible choice and everyone understood. They do want to go back as soon as they can to remedy that though.”

So far, there has been some communication between the Sussexes and the royals. “Things are in a better space now between the couple and the royal family,” an insider told Entertainment Tonight. “While of course there have been tensions, the family is getting through it.”

Prince William and Prince Harry have been communicating

The global crisis and their father’s diagnosis seems to have eased the tense feelings between the royal brothers.

“Meghan told her inner circle of friends that Harry has been communicating with Prince William and the Queen on a pretty consistent basis,” an insider told Daily Mail. “She said this world crisis has actually brought them all closer together, especially Harry and his brother. Harry has made it very clear to them that he will do whatever he can to help from Canada. Meghan said they are grateful, especially Harry, that they could spend time with his family before all this insanity began.”
