Poundland launches £1 retinol range including a dupe for Boots No7 blockbuster anti-ageing serum

Everyone knows retinol is the number one ingredient for anti-ageing, but you might be stunned to discover you can now get it for just a QUID.

Poundland has just jumped onto the retinol bandwagon with new anti-ageing additions for its #6 skincare range, all priced at £1 each.

We can’t help but notice that the serum is a lookalike for Boots No7’s blockbuster Advanced Retinol 1.5% Complex, £34 here, which launched last year to a waiting list of over 100,000 people.

As well as the serum, Poundland also has a retinol day cream and night cream that bear more than a glancing resemblance to L’Oréal Paris’s Revitalift retinol range, £12.99 here.

The £1 serum might share a similar look to the Boots version, but it’s quite a different formulation because, unusually for a retinol, Poundland's is designed for daytime use.

Retinol can make skin more vulnerable to UV damage, which is why the Poundland #6 version is sensibly formulated with SPF25, as is the matching retinol day cream.

The Boots retinol was something of a sales sensation, thanks to impressive clinical trials that proved no less TEN anti-ageing benefits. We’ve not heard of any test results yet on the budget version, but Poundland says it’s “set to rival well-known beauty brands on price. With some retinol products costing up to £50 and above, the #6 Retinol range offers great value premium ingredients at a budget-friendly £3.”

And that’s not where the skincare price war ends. Poundland is also launching a collection based around another on-trend ingredient, hyaluronic acid – and we don’t need to tell you the price tag.

Hyaluronic acid is renowned for making skin plump, smooth and glowy, and it’s a staple ingredient for a host of huge recent launches, from Huda's Wishful Thirst Trap, £41 here, to Elizabeth Arden’s Hydra-plumping Capsules, £75 here.

As with the #6 retinol range, Poundland shoppers can bag a whole round-the-clock regime for just £3.

There’s a serum, day cream and night cream, and we don’t think we’re wide of the mark if we say the styling is reminiscent of L’Oréal’s Revitalift Filler + Hyaluronic Acid line, from £19.99 here.

While some skin types don’t always get along with retinol, hyaluronic acid has the added bonus of being suitable for pretty much everyone.
