Getting remarried, visiting a nudist beach and camping at a music festival are among the activities over 45s wants to achieve in their lifetime.

Other popular experiences to tick off include attending a school reunion, going on a hot air balloon and jumping on a motorbike.

Getting a new tattoo, spending Christmas abroad and eating at a Michelin starred restaurant also made the top 50.

The study, commissioned by hearing specialist Hidden Hearing, also revealed the average over 45 currently has nine goals left to tick off their wish list and hopes to complete it within the next 10 years.

And those aged aged 65 and over have five ambitions remaining.

But almost three quarters of those polled believe it is 'important' to live life to the full and four in 10 don't think anything – including age – should get in the way.

The research was carried out to mark Alzheimer's Awareness Day (September 21) after it found 63 per cent 'fear' getting dementia and forgetting some of their favourite memories and experiences.

GP and health broadcaster Dr Hilary Jones said: "The results show that as a nation, we don't want to be defined by age – there's so much many of us still want to achieve, and our lifestyles and ambitions recognise this.

"Staying mentally alert and physically healthy is so important.

"A big fear among many is losing our memory and forgetting key moments, or struggling with mental health, but it's never too late to make a positive change and be proactive in your health.

"We know hearing loss has links to dementia, so simple things like taking a hearing test and using hearing aids can help switch life on.
"New research has revealed that wearing a hearing aid may help people protect their brain function and reduce their risk of dementia."

The study of 2,000 adults aged 45+ found almost a third describe themselves as 'adventurous' and 71 per cent are open to trying new experiences.

And half admit they want to tick things off their list to feel they have made the most of life while 58 per cent want to do so purely to make memories.

One in four of those polled via OnePoll want to complete some kind of challenge to prove to themselves they are still physically or mentally capable, such as climbing a mountain, writing a novel or learning a new language.

But when it comes to the barriers to living life to the full, poor health was noted as an obstacle, as was lack of money.

Britain's Got Talent winner and Hidden Hearing ambassador Colin Thackery said: "Life doesn't stop at a certain age – you need to be positive and you need to switch life back on if you feel like you've stalled.

"Look at me, I'm 89 and was dared to go on Britain's Got Talent, then I only went and won it.

"Never stop pushing yourself. You need to look after your health, look after your hearing, and go and have an adventure."
