Nando’s branch to open on Christmas day to feed homeless and give them presents

A Nando’s restaurant hopes to spread some festive cheer this Christmas.

The Glasgow outlet is opening its doors to the homeless on December 25.

Employees will gift their underprivileged guests presents, as well as essentials that will make winters easier.

Bosses have urged customers to donate clothing, blankets, sleeping bags and toiletries ahead of the big day.

On Facebook, the Waterloo Street store told followers about its initiative.

Nando’s staff shared a picture of a sign that’s been put up in the Peri-Peri restaurant.

It reads: “We are planning on opening Christmas Day to feed some of Glasgow’s homeless and we’d love your help to provide them with useful gifts such as blankets, gloves, jackets etc to keep them warm.

“Please help us fill our bin between now and Christmas Day.”

Nando’s customers have already been doing their bit to support the scheme.

On Facebook, the heartwarming post has racked up 6,600 likes and hundreds of comments.

Many praised the restaurant manager for the act of kindness.

One responder said: “Well done Nando’s for allowing this to be put together and most of all to the staff involved – you’re all amazing.”

Another gushed: “What a great idea – I will donate. Well done Nando’s.”

A third added: “What a wonderful, kind and caring thing to do.”

Nando’s isn’t the only company to help those in need this December.

Aldi is donating leftover fruit, fish and meat to local charities on Christmas Eve.

Meanwhile, Lidl has pledged 250,000 meals to those in need during the festive period.
